That’s not bad, my daughter quit taking formula at 10 months.

Formula or breastmilk needs to be the main source of nutrition until at least 1 years old. Although they have the ability to ingest other foods, they don’t have the digestive enzymes to break down and process to absorb the nutrients they need. So it’s going in and going out. Please reconsider and do some research on infant nutrition.

@cameronsmommy17, that’s not a start on transitions. Transitioning slow is adding an ounce of milk to a formula bottle and slowly increasing. Again, you’re not supposed to start until 1. Not off before 1. WIC is a supplement, not the only source. If you have to buy a can or two after 1 it is in your child’s best interest.

When is he turning 1? Cause you could have let him transition until the age if 1 and only start weaning him off 2 weeks before his birthday...

@laniejay, he’s fine and healthy. Plus he wouldn’t even take his formula bottles so that’s why I stopped giving them

@cameronsmommy17, no way WIC provides enough formula for the child monthly anyway so you’ll just have to keep paying out of pocket until he’s 1. I know it sounds crazy but that last month still counts! It will be better for baby if he’s still getting formula until a year. If not, at least get some toddler formula or something because milk alone replacing formula is a huuuuge difference in vitamins and mineral intake. I am just now transitioning my one year old. I also have toddler formula by Gerber and pediasure in case she’s not eating enough, though she is. Here is a chart of about what they need in a day for nutrition in one year olds. Again, not for your baby right now but in just one short month! :)

That last protein category really means meat lol.

But you can see that the dairy intake is only like 16 oz. your baby probably ate wayyyy more formula. You don’t necessarily want that to switch to milk. If baby drinks that much whole milk, it can prevent them from digesting important vitamins and minerals from food like iron, which I’m sure you’ve heard is a huge issue in babies (and people in general) causing anemia.

It would definitely be beneficial for you to read up on infant nutrition to keep him healthy.

I took my daughter off formula at 10-11 months. Pediatrician said it was fine and she didn’t really want it anyway. Everyone keeps saying that your son can officially be off on his birthday. So when he’s 11 months and 364 days he can’t digest our good right but magically he can the very next day? Nope. Don’t buy it.

laniejay

Lanie Jay

@thepaige16, no... that is the earliest you’re supposed to START the transition. Not that magic happens overnight

@thepaige16, exactly. I don’t see what difference a month makes

@thepaige16, he’ll be 1 in 4.5 weeks not one day. That’s a big difference. What do you gain in spreading misinformation?

1 month isn’t huge in adult time. Developmentally for a baby, 1 month makes a world of difference.
