Ive breast fed over 7 yrs total so any questions dm me!!
When baby latches, make sure the jaw and bottom lip is not tucked inward. You can reposition baby's latch by taking your thumb and gently pulling downward on baby's chin to cause the bottom lip to flange out (think fishy lips lol). This will instantly cause baby to suck deeper around the areola and lessen the suction on your nipple. Baby's nose should be touching or nearly touching above your areola. Baby's chin should be under your areola against your breast and you should feel lower jaw movement and swallowing. If you see dimples in the cheeks, gently use your pinky and put in baby's mouth to the side pulling towards baby's cheek. This should cause baby is gently release his latch. Put your nipple above baby's top lip until he opens wide then slip your breast in baby's mouth. This should create a wide flanged result (fishy lips). Good luck momma! Stick with it! You can also squirt your own milk on your nipples and let dry before nursing to help moisturize and prevent further cracking. Invest in cooling breast pads designed to bring soothing relief. You can also use nipple shields. I'm here to answer any questions! 😊
The first week always sucks these ladies have some awesome advice if the latch is wrong it will cause more pain if your nipples are just adjusting they will crack become bruised and just hurt until you get adjusted use creams & ice inbetween feeding & pumping.
My second go around breastfeeding and it’s so hard this time.. but we can push through it, you’re doing your best!
Warm towels
Nice nipple cream
And most of all you can pump before latching so baby can suck better and your not in pain
See a lactation consultant to see if the latch is good. Get some good nipple cream (if your nipples crack, it helps to put breast milk on them and let air dry). Keep snacks and water in a basket where you find yourself nursing the most so you are prepared. And just keep up with it. It gets easier lady. 💜
Just give it time. It should get better. It could be the latch.
