Hey so guys I'm so sad right now. My 5 month old is screaming. I gave her rice cereal and it's stopping her up and making her have bad stomach pain. I'm in the process of weaning her on solids. What do I do. :( stop giving it to her and try something more settling for her stomach.?

@kaylacarese, holy cow! That’s nuts. At 2 months, my child was still in the NICU, so I can’t even imagine her doing any of this that young.

They aren’t able to digest cereals and grains until closer to 9-12 months. They don’t have the digestive enzymes to break down and process it. I don’t know why doctors are so outdated and continue to recommend and push it. You should wait for solids (anything beyond breastmilk or formula) until 6 months and ALL signs of readiness. I can tag you in a fact based informative post.

I’d stop the cereal for now. Give belly rubs, bicycling the legs and a warm bath.

@kaylacarese, 👍🏼 surely the science can’t be wrong. These are things you will likely not see until adulthood. Trust me- I fed my oldest cereal in a bottle at 6 weeks, because that’s what you were told to do back then. Now I know better and do better. Be open minded to the education. What’s the worst that could happen? You become a better parent?

@kaylacarese, pediatricians are notoriously wrong when it comes to infant nutrition. They are great, but cannot stay up to date on everything which is why it is so important parents do their own research. Credible, factual research. I’ve done far more then my doctor in infant nutrition.

And simply because your child can ingest it and expel it does NOT mean they are digesting it properly and absorbing the nutrients. Science says they cannot at that age. You’re stuffing his poor overstretched belly with something he cannot process. You’re setting yourself and him up for failure- along with long term GI damage, obesity, diabetes etc...

@kaylacarese, ohhh only every peer reviewed study, credited research sites, and even not so credited sites...

@laniejay it's not a choking hazard. Idk where your getting that it is. Lol

And I obviously said already it makes him poop and sleep better. So he digest it just fine. Thank you for your opinion but I'd rather facts and my doctor knows them.

@duckduckgoose well I trust my doctors more than someone just trying to judge people over the internet. You dont know what's best for everyone's child. My child digest it just fine. Everyone child is different so idc whatever you have to say.

@kaylacarese, just because he is supposedly physically advance doesn’t mean his intestines are. I kind of doubt he is sitting and scooting. My son was strong at birth he could roll over. He is almost walking at 9 months.. that doesn’t mean I should of started him early on food.

😐 you can’t “advance” their gut maturity nor can you be more advanced than a choking hazard. That’s like saying you won’t cut Grapes because they’re “advanced”. 🤥 instead of being defensive- do some fact based research.

@queenmeeks he already sits up on his own. He been rolling over and he been scooting probably gonna be fully crawling by 3 months.

@kaylacarese, what does “extremely advanced” mean for a 2 month old? Not trying to be rude, just curious.

He has been extremely advanced since he was born

@kaylacarese, eeek. That is horrible advice. That’s a huge choking hazard and should only be used in extreme reflux situations when all other options have been exhausted. Your poor baby’s belly is so stretched out now and doctor is making it worse. Please see another doctor for another opinion.

My baby is 2 months and I put rice cereal in his formula as advised by dr because he wasnt staying full. But to an 8 oz bottle I only put like a scoop. Maybe dont put as much rice in it?

Give her the rice cereal with banana or give her banana or apple baby food with it. That should get her going again.

@jane.austen64, science and facts don’t differ. Scroll through my posts and you’ll see a post devoted to solids with research based evidence. It’s too early for solids, that’s why your baby is having trouble. I have no advice for something gentler other than waiting until it’s time and trying veggies and fruits not grains

Personally I think every baby is different. People tend to follow the advice more of their doctors first. Thats what I go by. Not every doctor is right, but then again every baby is different. In this case, rice just may have not been suited for my baby. Is there something more gentle I can use for her stomach? @queenmeeks @laniejay

Or doctor said Oatmeal is easier for them to digest than rice. That’s what we use to use!

I didn't start really feeding my son baby cereal until he turned 1, I did alot of research and asking before weaning him, plus I wanted his 1st year to be more about formula since I couldn't continue to breastfeed 💕 it gets easier mama you just have to do your research and asking before hand so you don't have to deal with things like this, it's horrible mama I'm sorry! 😭 I wish I could help you😩 @jane.austen64 I'll be praying for you and your LO 🙏😘💕

Rice cereal is pointless so you should definitely stop giving her that. I hope she feels better soon.

@jane.austen64, you shouldn’t really start foods until 6 months. Their bellies aren’t ready. That could be why she is having a hard time.

Starting TWW. Anyone else?

I had a stillborn daughter at 38 weeks this passed Nov. This is my second month ttc. (Last month we only tried for like two weeks though). My last and only pregnancy, I got pregnant the first month of ttc so I hope it's quick this time again.

leahbeth I'm so sorry :( hopefully your cycle continues and you get another shot next month.
