Does the epidural hurt ? I’m really rooting to go natural , like an epidural is a last resort . I’m terrified of a needle going inside my back & I’ll cry if I have to have an emergency c-section for whatever reason

@tianadavis216 mine didn’t really hurt, more pressure than anything but they numbed it up first really well and when I got mine I had been in labor for about 17 hours so compared to that it was nothing and I felt so much better and more relaxed after I got it

I had epidurals with my last 2 and have some crazy back pain ever since but it was because with my 2nd child they hit my sciatic nerve so I get muscle spasms from it. But I twitched while they were doing it. They are not painful though.

My epidurals didn't hurt and they never wore off by the time it was time to push. Contractions were WAY more painful than the needle. Plus I would never want to push without an epidural. No thank you. Epidurals also allowed me to nap and get rested before baby made an appearance. Everyone has a different experience though.

@mombie., can you have your partner in there for support while they do the epidural

The epidural legit almost killed me with my most recent child. Then it wears off by the time you push anyways. It really isn’t worth it.

I do agree with @mombie, though, you need to relaxe so they can do their job right. I had hubby stand in front of me and I kinda hugged him with my head on his tummy (because they need you to lean forward) it helped a lot to calm me down. 😊

I was sooooo scared to get the epidural but by the time I got it I was so glad I did, i didn’t feel it go in the anesthesiologist said “there we go”

I was like TF? It’s in? She said yup all done!

And then I waited 10-15 minutes and my whole lower body was numb and felt no more contractions. It was amazing!

I don’t think the Epi hurts it’s the lidocaine they use to numb your back that burns but it’s tolerable because you honestly forget all about it 5 minutes later

I didn't feel mines either but from time to time I get sharp pains in that spot. I wanna go natural this time but I will get an epidural as last resort as well

@tianadavis216, yes but I’ll tell you from experience do whatever you have to do to relax it make it so much easier and faster my first it took them 3 tries to do it and it took 2 nurses and them having to get my ob in there and my husband all in my face to relax me😂 but once I relaxed it was done in no time

I didn't feel mine at all!! They gave it to me during contractions so I just felt the pain from those.

If they do it right, all you feel is a string of the medicine going in.

Going natural was am amazing experience for me. Its all about breathing through those contractions. Deeper the breathing the less you feel them

Birth Plan Rant I used to be all about getting an epidural, but after research and thinking about it more I want to have an unmedicated birth (this is my first baby). What annoys me is when I say that I'm going to TRY my hardest to have a natural and unmedicated birth people always feel the need to say that I'm crazy or that I'm going to change my mind when I get in that position. Or that epidurals are the best. I do realize that plans change, but why can't people be supportive and encouraging?
