Does anyone on here have stepchildren I have two girl and I would like to know how do you guys cope with discipline…

it's hard girl but you just gotta be stern! They'll get it and don't give into them, you're the parent not them. After a good 4-5 days with me, the boys are right back into my rules lol

@leshain18, I have a very short fuse. It’s runs in my family. I don’t like bratty kids. I really don’t.

But I try to be patient with my kids because they’re just toddlers. Now if they act like they do now when they’re older so help my god lol

@inked_mommy92, yeah I’m a very calm person especially when it come to children am extremely patient as well but I let it be know that I will not be walked over

@kellywidener820, aww that’s not nice at all, I know for sure if I had them more often it would be much better than what I’m dealing with now

@leshain18, I know the feeling. Remain calm. The calmer you are the calmer they will be. If you get upset and mad that’s when they get upset and mad and then everything escalates. I’ve lost my temper with them a few times and my husband had to get onto me and of course I was already mad so I snapped on him and just had to walk away at that point.

Kids will push you if they know they can.

I have two step kids. 9 and 5. Both boys. Since their mom tells me they’re not her problem and I have them all the time. I discipline them. I do not hit my own children I won’t hit them. I take away what they like. Which is their tablets. The PlayStation. Bed earlier if it’s something they do near bedtime. I do what I would do with my own kids. Hope it gets better for u. My youngest step kid said he hopes I die yesterday lol. It’s not easy!

@inked_mommy92, my 4yr old is the youngest and she’s a a hand full sometimes I just want to give up and I get so over whelmed when it come to talking to her

@leshain18, My husband actually stood up for me and explained to his ex that I punish the boys just as I would my own daughter and our unborn son whenever he gets here. If her girlfriend can spank the boys so can I. I don’t spank them unless it’s the last resort and I usually make their dad spank them because I’m like you I don’t like to spank my kids but sometimes that’s the only way that gets the point across to them.

I try to use positive reinforcement or redirecting as well but Aiden man.. he’s the oldest and he’s trying me. He’s acting out with everyone. We’re not sure where he is learning his behavior from but I know I sometimes also just have to walk away. Right now I’m in the bedroom while my husband gets them to take a nap because I’m worn out and just can’t handle them right now. My daughters about to be home from her dads and it’s gonna be a full house!

@inked_mommy92, I just don’t want to cause any big argument with their mom so I keep it without the spanking and I don’t think I’ll have to spank my child once he’s born but the treatment between all of them will remain mutual

I spank my step sons. I also put them in time out as well. Spanking is my last resort. We only have my step sons on the weekends so it’s hard to really control how they act but we don’t allow them to act up at our house. Mine are 3 and 2 about to be 4 and 3 and I have a 2 soon to be 3 year old daughters who is mine and I’m pregnant. I treat all of my children the exact same and expect the same out of all of them.

I have also learned if I take the kids to a separate bedroom and just talk to them it seems to help. If talking doesn’t work then we go to time out and if time out doesn’t work then they can a pop on the butt and I explain why they’re in trouble and I make them sit on the couch. I know that they’re still young and they don’t get spanked very often.

@sjo1, yeah I told him the same I will not treat them any different from how I will treat my own I Consider them my children the only thing is I didn’t birth them and his response is when you have your own you’ll understand And I tell him loving your children means disciplining them at the same time

@leshain18 you take care of them so your opinion matters. My husband always felt like I was being harsh but I had to tell him that if it was my kids being that way I'd discipline the exact same and he realized we had to be on the same page when it came to me disciplining the kids. All 4 of them! I don't treat them any different then I treat mine, mine don't go back and fourth from our home to their dads so that's where the behavior is a little different. My two are with us 24-7 so they know what's acceptable and isn't. She's old enough to learn girl so don't feel bad, do what you gotta do

@sjo1, yeah I get a lot of that we finally got them to sleep on their own that was a big issue for me. And we both work and he always pisses me off when I tell him to talk to her and let her know that her behavior is not acceptable, we car not married as yet but I’ve been in their life for about 3&1/2 years now

@leshain18 it was hard in the beginning girl, me and my husband would argue over their behavior but he finally realized it wasn't acceptable. He's the breadmaker I'm the homemaker so if mama isn't happy at home, no one is lol 😂

I use to have a ton of problems with my youngest stepson, girl he'd talk back, destroy things, try sneaking in my bed to sleep between me and his dad. I cut that all off !

@leshain18 don't let her play until she acts right then. Tell her why she isn't allowed to play and why she's gonna sit it out. Yelling for me never worked so I stopped that but when I started taking things away from the kids is when they began to listen. Probably because they don't wanna stand in a corner or sit next to me while the other kids play

@sjo1, that’s my issues dad will just yell at them if they continue to do the same I try to have them do learning activities other than play with the tablet because that all they do at home if they are not in school. And I rather for them to be active. The 4yr us the worst she is like so bad and she doesn’t listen at all until I come in the room then she’s apologize

@sjo1, yeah I have to deal with that too they want candy for breakfast or they want to fight their aunt fir her stuff ( her candy her computer or just anything that’s not theirs) then they never want to clean up after their-self unless I walk in the room and I always get our mom cleans up after us I don’t like a missing house if you can feed yourself you can put your plate in the sink or child bag in the garbage and demand it to be done. They yell scream shout.

@leshain18 girl I bet! I have a 6 year old then my step son's 6 then my other step son's 4 and my son's 3! in the summer I'm busy lol ! I make a schedule for us and go off of that as much as I can, as far as fighting same thing I just throw them in a corner and make them stand it out. Lol or I tell dad and he'll decide what he's taking away. Toys, electronics, games ect

Mine are 6 & 4. You've gotta just learn to discipline them in a way that'll work for you guys, if you have to you should put them in a corner for a bit. Explain to them that their behavior isn't acceptable and that there's consequences

When mine come they come with the worst eating habits and I have to reinforce that we don't eat a bag of chips @ our home or candy as breakfast, or they'll try telling me they won't clean their mess because at their mom's she cleans for them. I'm like nope @ my house we clean up after ourselves so you do that at your mom's but not here honey lol

@sjo1, also they fight all the time I’m I’m trying my best but since I’ve been pregnant it’s been so much harder

@sjo1, yes we split times with them and when they come to spent time over the summer are every other weekend their attitude are the worst and they are very rude to there 11 year old aunt ... no respect bulling, cry’s for this that are not theirs it’s just ridiculous. Their girls and their 4 and 7

Do you guys split your time with them? I have two stepsons. When we get them for the summer I kid you not they come with the worst habits and attitudes but a week into being at my home they adjust back to my rules. I just remind them they won't act that way @ our home and that our home rules are different then being at their mom's house. I also don't give them choices, at my house they're gonna do what we say or there's consequences like no play time, no tablet time, ect!

if you don't believe in spanking or punishing, they are going to continue to be spolied. You have to discipline in some way whether its time out, taking objects away, no allowance.
