I am not someone to Mom shame at all but as a mom I want the best for every child, well I have a social media friend and she has a 1 month old and she’s breastfeeding exclusively but every weekend she parties and drinks like crazy and I asked her about how did she know if she had alcohol in her system, her response was after an hour of being sober she feeds. So I went online and googled how long did it take and it all depends on your weight and how much you drink and what you drink. But she drinks liquor to the point of getting super drunk, I told her I went online and it says it takes up to 13 hours and she said she did her own research and they all said and hour after sobering up ... I’m just concerned her baby is getting alcohol through the breast milk... how do I tell her about it again without sounding like I’m judging her decisions ?
I think shaming a mom because she goes out is wrong. As well as judging her for drinking and breastfeeding. There are so many studies done giving great validation stating she should be okay to breastfeed after she is sober.
And seems like you keep adding to how bad of a mother she is when you noticed moms are saying she should be okay.
I say if you are this concerned report her to CPS and let them sort it out.
@k.i.k.i_97, she has a 3 year old and she smoked and drinker while pregnant and now the baby has some health issues
@honeyxxbee, I just read the article but she doesn’t only have 2-3 drinks.
I hope she doesn't have more kids partying every weekend Jesus grow up !!
@honeyxxbee, she sobers up with beer that’s what she said and then drinks again at night
You do t have to be sober to breastfeed, there’s a negligible amount of alcohol in breastmilk. You’d be blacked out before there was enough to affect the baby. There’s really extensive studies on it. Those alcohol strips are a farce. They’d be positive after orange juice.
@laniejay, thank you, idk if she sobers up cause she post about drinking till like 3am and then wakes up to “ sober up with beer “ and day drinks .. so idk if she does sober up
@flower_princess, then my issue with the situation is baby not getting fed on demand. Like someone said above, as long as she’s not hammered at the same time time baby is actually feeding, then the breast milk will be safe. But, if baby is hungry while she’s five shots deep at a party in a different location than the baby, then I’m concerned about there not being a bottle available.
@honeyxxbee, actually it does, I did my research because I, myself, have a bridal shower for my sister and want to have a drink or two and wanted to make sure it’s okay to feed after a couple of hours. Also if you have a drink or two it takes a few hours but if you drink more than 4-5 it takes longer
The only time she should not breastfeed is when she’s blacked out. Once she’s sobered up a bit, she’s fine. As long as someone responsible is there to supervise and take care of baby.
Ask her if she knows they sell alcohol breast milk strip testers. I picked mine up from Target. Then she can test before she feeds to make sure it’s really ok to serve to baby.
@lsgh, I don’t think going out every weekend is ok. I’m sorry but yeah once in a while is okay but 2 weeks after she gave birth she started drinking and smoking and doing drugs. That’s not ok, to me.
I tried to ask her questions about it and try to reason with her because she did drugs and would still get blackout drunk until she was 4 months pregnant.
