My son turns 1 this Sunday. I have introduced 2% milk as we do not buy whole milk and he was drinking formula still. Well now my boyfriend refuses to buy anymore formula for him now that he is 1. I plan on using whole milk with some vitamins. Do I feed him whole milk the way I would formula? He likes to go to sleep with a bottle and he likes a bottle in the morning. The rest of the day he does pretty good drinking it along with his food. I don’t want to over feed him but I also don’t want to underfeed him. Also how do you store milk in his diaper bag without it getting spoiled? I would have waited to get him off formula until he had his 1 year check up but unfortunately I have no choice but to stop him now (I’m a stay at home mom and have no money)
@buntaine, why are you with him if he doesn’t respect you and certainly doesn’t have your child’s best interest at heart?!?
This is a form of abuse. I desperately hope you can grab the courage to get to a woman’s help shelter and seek resources to get out of the cycle you are in. Please be aware that there are resources out there to help newly single mothers and government assistance. They can also find you support for mental health. I also suffer from mental health so I understand how hard it is to imagine starting over but don’t let your mental health define what kind of person you and your son deserve. This is not it.
@flamingomom, we used soy formula because it was the only formula he could use without constantly having diarrhea or vomiting. As he has gotten older his tummy problems seem to have gotten better. I figured since he took regular milk fine then what’s the point in using soy lol. But if regular milk ever did start to be a problem, that’s definitely what I choose
@missheatherbaby, I have wic. I think I don’t get new ones until his birthday. This is why I would have much rather waited until after his birthday! Lol
@buntaine, go to wic. They will give you checks for the milk so you don’t have to worry about what he does and doesn’t buy.
@missheatherbaby, oh I wasn’t sure. I’m just using what I have. I can’t buy any until my boyfriend decides to buy it and he works all day. I’ll definitely insist he buy some tonight.
Whole milk only until your son is 2. It’s totally fine to switch him to milk now just try to do half milk and half formula for a week or so to eliminate constipation. My pediatrician says no more than 24oz of milk a day but they don’t need 24oz either. Most nutrients should be coming from actual food. The most important part of this whole situation is that you use whole milk. 2% is not good for your baby’s brain growth or development.
Girl file for cash assistance you'll get it!! You gotta be strong for those babies!
@buntaine but you don't have to rely completely on her or family you can have your own .. he needs to pay child support then if he has that mentality it's also controlling In a sense@laniejay I agree
@laniejay, he’s emotionally abusive and I have known for a long time that I need to leave but because I struggle with a lot of mental health issues I have to leave in a way that will benefit me and my child. Last time I tried to leave it put a lot of stress on me and I became very depressed and eventually had a mental break down. It’s already stressful being with him and it makes me depressed. I have no idea how to leave him especially if I do not have any money
I believe that people should work also but some people can't and need the help until they are able .. you gotta do what you gotta do love
@jordanrwilliams25, I guess I’ll rely on my family (my grandma lol)
@buntaine, why are you with him if he doesn’t respect you and certainly doesn’t have your child’s best interest at heart?!?
@buntaine girl go file for cash assistance until you're able to work.. you'll get it for your oldest and the new baby towards the end of third trimester .. you can't have nothing what if you have an emergency?!
@jordanrwilliams25, me and my boyfriend have issues. He won’t help me financially and never has. I’ve asked and he doesn’t respect me as a stay at home mom. He thinks I do nothin and people who work deserve money not people who stay home all day.
You should be transitioning to whole milk not 2%. Your boyfriend is a douchcanoe. You’re supposed to wait until a minimum of 1 and then start a slow transition, not transition before because he’s to cheap to buy formula.
( just my opinion) I'm having my first baby but Ive been a stay at home wife now almost 2 years out of going on 9 .. my husband gives me money out of every check to put in my bank account so that I'm never without or have to ask anyone .. it doesn't have to be much but you should just try to ask to do the same it's very beneficial.. and definitely he should provide formula to help your baby transition easier ..
Also I see people talking about constipation. It my cause it at first but with most cases their body will get use to it.
It is fine to switch him now. But they should have to much also, only about 21oz a day I think (I would look up the recommended amount). But when we go out we usually just bring water or a cup of milk and drink before it gets warm. They should be defendant on it like it's a meal anymore. My son drinks a cup when he wakes up, in the middle of the day after lunch, and one before bed. So he does drink about 21oz a day.
@beniteza11, I am. We used up our WIC for this month 😕
I’m sorry, but this is horrible. Just because you are a stay at home mother does not mean that he can’t give you money to get your son formula. Just because he is 1 does not mean you need to abruptly stop formula. He needs to transition or it could cause stomach issues plus he will have to have sippy cups of juice and water when out because milk wouldn’t hold up. I’d also increase his food intake since he isn’t relying on formula at every meal.
@mswedes, well for about a month we have been giving it to him along side of formula just to get him used to it. I saw online where it showed how to use half formula and then half milk. I would rather transition that way but I would need some more formula! Lol my son already struggles with constipation as he uses soy formula so hopefully it doesn’t get worse. I’ll definitely keep an eye out
I was told by my pediatrician not to exceed 24 oz a day. Also pay attention to his poop. Making a drastic switch can cause constipation. It’s usually recommended to transition slowly with some formula and milk as to avoid the constipation.
Today is the first day with no formula and we only have 2% milk. He has done great with it and doesn’t mind it at all. I just didn’t know if they were supposed to drink it as a drink at the table or if they can drink it whenever they feel like it
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
When can I start giving my son regular milk? He turns 10 months in 2 days. I bought unsweetened almond milk yesterday so he can try. Would that be okay? I’m lowkey tired of him on formula but I mean he’s still a baby lol.
Any advice welcome ☺ ive been weaning noah onto cows milk for 3 weeks just slowly reducing his formula and hes reacted really well. Now i ran out of powder, so quickliy picked up the ready made stuff in a rush, so now do i just put him straight to whole milk when this is finshed or keep going for a few more weeks. Hes on 2/3oz formula at the minute the rest is whole milk. Hes 1 on the 12th sept so not to far off his 1st birthday 💙
My son is almost 2 months old I feed him baby food in his bottle mixed with his formula has anyone else's done this as early as me he does great he will even eat it buy a baby spoon and do fine but if I don't feed him the baby food in with his bottle he doesn't get full but if I feed him more formula he projectiles it all out
All the milk I defrost smells sour 😭 my son will not drink it and now I’m gonna have to start him on formula because I have to go back to work soon. I really didn’t want to have to do formula but gotta do what I have to for him to be full and happy.
What brand and type of formula do you guys use? My son is a very gassy baby.
