Last night I bottle fed Bella breast milk 12am,, 3am,, 7am. Seems that when she took the bottle 1.5 oz each she slept 3 hours each🙌🏼!!
Seems when I was breast feeding at night she was waking every hour to eat!
Looks like I’ll be nursing and expressing during the day and have bottle ready at night 🤞🏼 let’s see how it goes

My son did that too when i first started nursing when he was 2 weeks old rather than just exclusively pumping but it gets better and they’ll start sleeping longer just gotta give it a few weeks! It’s so much easier to just whip out a boob than a bottle 🤣

Make sure you’re pace feeding the bottles and pumping every time she eats or your supply can tank.

What’s pace feeding??@laniejay,

While I totally understand the need for sleep, babies tend to nurse more at night because prolactin production is higher. Prolactin is the hormone that signals milk production. Breastfeeding women’s prolactin levels are significantly higher at night, particularly in the wee hours of the morning. Babies often want to nurse at night because quite simply, there’s more milk at night!
Babies are born with no established circadian rhythms. They can’t tell day from night, and they take several months to develop their own cycles. They also do not make their own melatonin (a sleep-inducing hormone) for much of their early life. So, scientists actually think that melatonin-rich nighttime breastmilk helps babies develop their own circadian cycles and helps them eventually learn to sleep longer stretches at night.
If your milk production starts to dip reintroduce nighttime feeds on the breast instead of from the bottle, it will help up your milk production. I'd also recommend pumping in the evening for what you plan on feeding her overnight as that milk will be more likely to contain melatonin versus daytime milk. You'll also want to pace feed so as not to affect her intake of a bottle vs. breast.

Glad you're getting some sleep!

Pace feeding is controlling the flow to
Mimic breastfeeding. At that age, baby should be drinking a max of an ounce at a time. Slow the flow and it should take 5 mins per half ounce then burp. When they get bigger it’s 5 mins per ounce.

@laniejay, okayy thank you! My 3 week old eats 2 oz a feeding through bottle,, last week she was 8.14 lbs

@brianamestichelli, thats a bit much, you’ll stretch her belly and that will harm your breastfeeding relationship.

@laniejay, I put an oz in the bottle per feeding but she ends up crying for more once she’s finished, that’ll be after a burp and change too
