@angelfoodcake, I’ll gladly do it because I never had a “Belly “so I envy anyone who has a bigger bump than I did lol. Oh don’t you hate that question ?

@angelfoodcake, placenta can definitely crap out and

Baby will start to

Make insulin and use their pancreas to help you .

@laniejay I agree with the accuracy of weight via ultrasound being incorrect at times. But have you considered the fact of the placenta failing? I think thats the primary reason of inducing controlled or not. That's my understanding , but I'm no medical doc.

We will have to disagree on your “most”.

I was not induced. My doctor brought it up only because of predicted size. I don’t believe in the accuracy of size in late ultrasounds and I said no. She never said a word about induction

for GD only that I’d be monitored closely toward the end. I was told my baby would be 9-10 lbs (which didn’t scare me, I already birthed a 9lb baby) because he measured 8.5 at the 36 week ultrasound. He was 7lbs 5 oz 😒.

My GD was controlled by diet. My own controlled diet because I refused all the suggestions by the nutritionist. I do my research, I’m well versed. I only throw out facts, I don’t throw out terms like “most” unless I can back it up.

Regardless of 39 weeks being full term, induction isn’t necessary unless there’s a medical reason. Controlled GD isn’t a medical reason that warrants induction.

@laniejay I disagree I believe it's closer to "most". Even based on what I've seen on boards as such, most women with GD/ diabetes are induced by 39/ or more so at 39 with GD these days... And 39 weeks is full term, right?

Also were you induced? Just curious. Did you have to advocate for waiting if you were not? What were your average levels, how big was baby measuring.

laniejay

Lanie Jay

I wouldn’t say most. I did my research thoroughly because I had GD and was determined not to be induced so I could go natural and as close to full term as possible. You need closer monitoring, that’s all. Clearly type 1 or 2 diabetics are a different story.

angelfoodcake

angelfoodcake

@laniejay right... And also "Most" gd ARE induced at 39 though from what I recall... I've heard very few docs not inducing even if extremely well controlled - you know there's always a risk of the placenta failing earlier with diabetes too... A chance most docs/patients don't wanna take. And with GD/diabetes levels tend to get harder to control the further along you are, so often the induction is unplanned.

laniejay

Lanie Jay

@angelfoodcake, it’s likely because of your diabetes. GD alone isn’t a reason to induce unless it’s uncontrolled.

@blessed2018w9 That's not abnormal most diabetic situations are induced between 37-39 actually. But maybe it's because I'm full diabetic and insulin dependent - not just gestational and diet controlled... I dunno.

Last pregnancy I was induced at 36+6 due to pre-e and diabetes ... So I actually may do sooner.

I have diabetes...they won't induce us until wk39
