Hello all,
I’m one of the B.B. crossovers and a few times a year I like to share my story of pregnancy induced heart failure. I wish to God someone had shared it with me. My goal is to educate women & to save lives, Not to scare anyone.

PPCM is becoming less rare, but it is treatable if caught early ❤️💪
In 2015 I was pregnant with my first & only child. I stated having symptoms that seemed worse then any asthma attack I’ve ever had. I went to the ER because I couldn’t catch my breath and was told sometimes Asthma gets worse with pregnancy, I didn’t know any better then to say ok and try different treatments. Plus, my baby always seemed healthy and strong.Well my breathing got worse and worse, my bp got very high, I was packing on lots of fluid & spiting up blood . I went to my OB, l&d, urgent care and saw the PA at my Docs office all many times. Finally 3w pp I got my dx because thank God someone finally did a chest X-ray and saw my my heart and lungs we’re failing. I was thankfully put in the right hands at the right time because my heart was only working at 5%, I had pre-e, pneumonia and sepsis shock. I was a very sick dying new Mom, but had a great team who saved my life. I’m forever thankful, but I wish to God I had I knew about PPCM before getting it, so I could of gotten treated while I was pregnant. I was in the cardic ICU 5 day, cardic unit 3 days and went home with a life vest. That’s a defibrillator you wear like a bra. I hope and pray none of you ever experience this, but trust your gut and don’t give up if you ever think anything is wrong with you or your family ❤️💪.

Thank you for sharing!! My cousin who is due in two weeks with her second child has PPCM as well. I thank God our OB caught it before and that it didn't happen with her first by some miracle! This is very very serious and alot of times they do go undiagnosed. So sad. I'm so glad you and baby made it and are happy and healthy!!

@krs1415, I’m sorry your cousin is going though this, but I’m thankful your OB caught it. Your right it goes undiagnosed way to often and it’s so sad. Medical professionals need to be educated, because they misdiagnosed way to often. It can happen any pregnancy unfortunately. I was told not to have more children, but many people go on the have healthy babies and not all relapse. You have my prayers for your cousin, her baby and your family. I’m on a really great FB group if you want to join let me know. We have an amazing Doc on there who post research & will answer questions. He came up with the self test. He’s a blessing and angel to anyone with PPCM. The group has helped me heal a lot of my ptsd. Thank You for sharing too and best wishes 🙏

@justgotaname, Aww, Thank You for asking, I didn’t think of posting how I am now. I’m considered recovered and my ef is at 60% (50-55 is normal and anything over 70% is to high). I was blessed to recover when I was 6 months pp, but just recently my heart recovered more. I did have some damage that has to be watched, I will take low does meds for life, I have to watch my salt intake and things like walking around the super market and daily things are still not easy. I consider it a miracle my dd was born healthy and that I recovered as must as I did. Thank You again for asking 🤗

@krs1415, I’m sorry it’s a closed group, but you can look up the Doctor his name is Dr James Fett. You should be able to search his name and see his studies and work. Save The Mommies has been a wonderful resource too. They are all Moms who survived PPCM and help others now. I got FB only for the support group. If you can think of it, I’d love an update on your cousin and her baby.

Doctor Fett and his nurse wife worked in Haiti and with a Mom who had no one to take her baby, so the fett’s adopted the baby girl. They are very dedicated to helping others with PPCM

@sweet_pea1 Oh most definitely will! And my mom is going to let me use her Facebook to look up the group!! Cousin is due Sept. 9th so hopefully she makes it till then. They may be inducing which scares the shit out of me but I'm guessing it will be a good thing so they can monitor her the entire time! I appreciate the support! If it's okay with you I would like to message you later on today when I get done with my housework. I have a couple questions!

@krs1415, of course. I’ll do the best I can to help you or try to point you to others who can. Plus, I’ll give you the group name. I was induce after my water broke on it’s own at 37w, but Thank God after 38hrs had a c-section that I was put under for. I was in active heart failure and so sick, but no one knew about my heart. Things got much worse after I had my lo. For me this save my life, but I don’t know anything about vaginal birth. Thank goodness your OB knows about PPCM and will have a team there for your cousin and the baby. Some Doctors will tell you PPCM doesn’t run in the family, but I found out I had a cousin with it after mine and I’ve heard many other stories. I have a dd, so she would need to get a ekg for a baseline and cardic workup before having kids. Hopefully by then we know more. I’ve heard so many success stories to and survivors who seem to live full lives.

Glad you’re ok. That’s scary! I think my sister in laws had it. Both had crazy heart issues during pregnancy only. They didn’t really talk about it but I’m guessing it was this or similar.

@sky105, Thank You, I’m very glad to be ok and I’m glad both your SIL are ok. It can be a lot less severe and less compacted, so it might be. Thank You for sharing. There are many complications with pregnancy that we don’t knew about.
