Is it the Training Up A Child book? That one's truly awful.

@yayacarrington, The book is called "You and Your Child" and it was published in 77. Another excerpt says "Your child may cry as though he would die, but he will not die."

@misszuzu That makes sense. I was born in '76 and that was very much the thinking at the time. Thankfully my dad was a peaceful parent before he even knew what that was.

@yayacarrington she was trying to give me parenting advice when she told me this. It's sickening. And their way of discipline stems from their beliefs. It wouldn't matter if they were educated on the topic. I believe they would still follow through with this form of punishment.

Omg! 2 weeks old?! This is sad. My brother was born in 72 and my mom would never have done this. She was also a peaceful parent. This is sad!
