I have naturally curly hair and this method works for me so it’s worth a try for you. I know it works for others with curly “Afro” hair. We actually have a curly hair group on here.
Wash his hair with Johnson baby shampoo (one time) then use Suave coconut conditioner and really saturate his hair with it. Rinse that out and then use either Shea Moisture or even strawberry milks V05 conditioner and saturate his hair again. Let it soak while you bathe him. Use a wide tooth comb and get out the knots while it’s wet. Use enough conditioner that his hair feels like seaweed. Should be easier to comb out. Never brush curly hair. Then cup water in your hands and scrunch out some conditioner but leave most of it in his hair. Use a 100% cotton tee shirt and scrunch out the water. Shea moisture conditioners are great for this too.
It’s kinda a lengthy process but I’ve seen a HUGE change in my curls.
Never use sulfates, silicones or drying alcohols.

Shea moisture has amazing products..a little pricier because they use quality ingredients and no "fillers"...and since you don't need much for their lil heads, I'd say it's worth it!

Try to put either olive oil or cocunut oil in hair as a deep treatment before shower and shampoo it out (but try a gentle shampoo without sulfates)...regular shampoo strips my hair it feels like straw after.

My hair is like this....i have to use leave in conditioner ... And a serum or oil....i dont wash my hair everyday...but I have to spritz with water and untangle with more leave in...it gets dry, matted, poofy, and knotted...
