Honestly, I would be worried. Some kids really are just behind but early intervention is often key

Every child develops at their own pace. Girls develop faster than boys. Personally, I don't think there is any cause for concern.

@newlyironman, he’s not slow. He’s super smart. He understands everything that I tell him & for the most part does whatever it is I say. He’s advanced in everything but talking. He says about 15-20 words though.

@tylersmommy11116, I’m not gonna say don’t be worried, but then be worried . My son was The same age and he was not saying many words but understood everything, we had to go to the process of getting his hearing checked to make sure that he was hearing OK because when kids don’t talk or don’t see many words it’s due to the ears. My son ended up getting speech therapy and to this day he still gets it and it just helps him talk more and and pronunciation of words . Sometimes it doesn’t take much to fix a problem but the longer you wait it’s going to be a bigger problem

@tylersmommy11116 never said he was slow. I said behind. Speech delay is a diagnosis. So there are some kids where the comprehension is there but they haven't yet developed the ability to articulate on their end. It doesn't mean he's not smart or that he's by any means stupid. What it MIGHT mean is that he COULD POSSIBLY need some help. I would just raise the question with the dr and see

My child was the same way when he was two and two and a half. Sometimes it just takes some kids longer. Now my son is 5 and all he does is talk.

I wouldn't worry just yet. Where your friend's kid might be talking in short sentences your son might be stronger in other developmental areas. @tylersmommy11116 I think 15-20 is good for that age! He will be doing 2 words before you know it and then telling you "no mama" like he knows how to do it better soon enough....then you will be like where is my sweet quiet son 😊😉😆

Tell them to fu** off. Each child develops different. My daughter is 18 months and says about 10-12 words, but listens super well &understands everything I ask her.

I wouldn't be alarmed until he is is little older and if nothing changes.

My son is the same way. He doesn’t really say much other than “more milk please” or “hi and bye” around other people but he says words and small two-three word sentences out of the blue around me and his dad all the time. We are always like woah I didn’t even know he knew how to say that. He also listens and shows that he understands what he is being told. There is nothing wrong with your son or mine!!

My son was that age in daycare and they offered speech therapist to come in. It was then mentioned that he could be autistic and to have him tested as him not talking a lot for his age was a characteristic. Get some early intervention and see what the therapist suggest. It could be nothing at all. But i thought just like you about my son. I’m sure he’s fine Best wishes mama! 😘
