Some questions for mommy's with twins!!

Some questions for mommy's with twins!!

Please help!!!

What did you and your S.O. do to get sleep? Our twins can't seem to get on the same schedule so the whole sleep when they sleep is nearly impossible. Also I breast feed my son but my daughter won't latch to me yet (we actually just managed to get her to take pumped breast milk today instead of formula- thank God for small miracles! She actually spent a lot of time fighting eating in general :/ so her just eating the way she should was the first miracle) I'm going to work with a lactation specialist but in the mean time she gets bottle fed usually by Daddy since she is a bit of a messy eater who frantically moves her mouth when trying to eat (which switching to advent bottles seem to have helped her actually latch to) and so I pump for her. So the second question, how do you make enough milk for both babies? Ironically my son only eats from the left side and he drains it all, and I pump when he eats but I only get about an ounce and a half from the other side. She was only eating formula at first, and we were successfully able to wean her little by little off formula and on to breast milk by mixing the two and slowly altering the ratio until it was breast milk only, which makes me ecstatic to be honest! But the second she started eating pure breast milk she just tore through the amount I had been able to pump out and now it is nearly gone. I will obviously supplement if necessary but I don't want to step backwards if I don't have too! I'm still hoping I can get a lactation expert at the pediatricians office to get her to latch like her brother does, but feel I have a better chance if she is still eating 100% breast milk which the last few feeds today is the first time she has done that since her first feed after being born (the one and only time she really latched). Any advice that helps boost supply is totally welcome!!!!

@jrhynard25 as for us, he had to be on a c-pap at first cause he couldn't breathe the way he should on his own, and his blood sugar was messed up, so they had to monitor him for 24 hrs (it was supposed to be 12 but he failed his last one on those first 12 hrs)... we had to suppliment him per doctors orders originally but he was always a good latcher. Now he acts like he doesn't get enough all the time wants to eat, and has hiccups and doesn't sleep longer than 20 to 40 minutes on average before he is up again, and it is worrisome to me cause I don't know how to help him sleep. She on the other hand didn't want to latch at all, all the nurses tried to help cause I really really wanted to feed her, she started becoming really lethargic and not eating at the hospital but the nurses didn't think anything of it, our pediatrician (different from the hospitals) yelled at us, but she just didn't want to eat at all and kept falling asleep, we finally fixed that, she eats formula if I don't have enough pumped breast milk and sleeps great... as for my incision it's infected and I'm swollen worse than I ever was pregnant by double, but have an impossible time resting or keeping my feet up cause of the babies... they are so beautiful, but a handful, we are trying to find a routine. Sleep schedules are difficult cause baby boy won't sleep

@jrhynard25 I'm sure you are busy enough, but if you ever wanted to text/call back and forth about babies, you are someone I vastly relate to on here, so I will give it to you via p.m if you ask

@ohnstadk, it’s going ok...Babies were both losing weight because I was trying to just breast feed and wasn’t making enough milk for both of them which was really sad. The Lactation nurse we saw on Wednesday had a much more reasonable plan for us. We are doing this every two hours during the day and every three at night (11 times a day 😯)—I’m nursing each baby for 15 minutes and then my husband is bottle feeding them my pumped milk and a little formula to get them enough food. Then I’m pumping for 15 minutes after to get milk for supplementing the next feeding and to try and boost my supply. Our weight check on Friday showed they were gaining instead of losing so that was awesome. Other than breast feeding things are going well. Trying to keep them on the same schedule has seemed to help with sleep but it’s tough. I had no idea how challenging feeding them would be. Being that were small to begin with there’s not much room for them to be losing any more weight.

Other than no sleep, how are things going for you guys? I hope you are recovering well from delivery.

@jrhynard25 how is everyone on your end? I don't know what sleep is anymore

An ounce a half from one side is a lot! I’ve been working with a couple of Lactation nurses here and they have me pumping for 15 minutes after I breast feed to try and help boost my supply. Hang in there! It’s tough feeding two babies

My daughter started nursing in the begining and I had trouble with my son. It was nice to have her keep up supply while he learned. Then it was her that lost interest and weaned herself at 4 months, all done at 6 months. I nursed ds until 1 year old when he started biting. I always supplemented, but they had no trouble going back and forth. It was actually nice to sometimes give a bottle when out and about. I nursed them and topped them off with formula. You need to get him to nurse from the other side. Pumping does not come close to what they can pull out to help supply.

Mine still like to sleep at different times too often. My 3 year old and them were taking turns with naps today. I didn't sleep much at all when they were young. My husband works a lot and I did it myself. A friend with twins (both worked) said they alternated sleep. One went to bed early and the other went late. That way they got solid sleep. Hard to do if you need to nurse them however.

I think the first 3 months were hard. Dd also had colic. It gets better when you can sleep, get in somewhat of a routine, and have them nursing well.

Btw, do you try to nurse them at the same time. Might help dd to have the let down. I loved my breastfriend pillow. I used blankets and was even able to go hands free.

@ohnstadk, your supply will start to pick up the more you do it! Just be patient

@braindeadmama thank you! I definitely already pump when he does, I lose more than half the outcome if I don't, and then I pump the left immediately after he is done eating but I never get anything cause he drains it, he literally only eats from the left side though I can't get him to switch

I don’t have twins, but you could always pump your right boob at the same time he is eating at the left! Or make sure to switch sides halfway through and then pump both

HELP! My baby is a few weeks old. We had trouble with latch in the beginning and she wasn't getting enough food I had to introduce formula to clear her jaundice when she came home..was nervous about introducing the bottle because I knew it might confuse her which I think it did and now have been giving her some breast milk I pump and formula as well. Really want to get her to latch on my breast but it is not working. Any advice here??

Question for formula moms

Question for formula moms How much do you spend a month on formula and what brand? I think the thought of spending the money is the biggest deterrent for me to switch. I do think breast milk is best but I also think formula is great since I was a formula baby. I'm just getting exhausted and frustrated with pumping all the time until we can get his tongue tie clipped and hoping that will fix his latching and sucking issues. They're taking forever to get me the referral. Gotta love Tricare.

I just absolutely love some women on here! Some woman wants to write on another women's post telling her she shouldn't be having sex at all in the beginning of pregnancy. I didn't know she was her doctor. Then she wants to tell me that the first trimester is only 1-9 weeks pregnant. And she lost her baby at 4 weeks pregnant due to sex. Like sweetie that's your period starting!
