Best advice from me. Nursing can be extremely hard, challenging, emotional and exhausting at first. Because there is no one to take over. You are the only one baby relies on. Expect baby to eat every 1 or 2 to start. You get a little honeymoon when baby is first born and they will let you sleep for a little after their first feed but then they get a little crazy to help bring in your milk. I found side feeding helpful. So I read alot to my toddler. If you can keep a toddler in daycare or with someone else for a part of their day. Do so. It helps you get some rest and keeps them busy and tired. ;) cream is helpful but any pain that doesn't resolve with cream, then it's time to get a lactation consultant or doctor or both to help. An emergency c section can effect your supply to counter its effects you can take off your newborns hat and smell their head. Do so often and with each nursing session. The new baby smell is there to help our bodies produce milk and let our bodies know baby is here and safe. Drink lots if liquid. I found water works but watering down my favourite drinks much better. If you can have someone prep you food that can be eaten one handed or lots of snacks get them to help.
Baby can't be on breast enough, especially first few weeks. Expect to spend almost 24hrs nursing.
Set up a comfy nursing spot with snacks and drinks for yourself.
Also set up a special nursing play area for your toddler if you're having a hard time managing both. A snack and special toy/activity/movie for your toddler while you nurse.
Motherlove nipple cream is great. Plain lanolin is also great. Definitely buy the lansinoh cooling gel pads.
Reusable nursing pads are great, bamboobies brand. But any are fine.
Have cold and warm packs just in case.
Nursing is one of the only thing that guarantees milk supply, don't need anything fancy. Just good diet and plenty of fluids.
Pumping is not recommended until after 6w of exclusive nursing. If you must pump early then limit your sessions.
Make sure you have some fluid syringes in case baby refuses feeds.
Paci/bottle are at your discretion. If you choose to use them you may have to try multiple before finding ones your baby likes.
