Hiya professional recommendations now stand at 6 months due to the maturation of the baby’s gut at that stage.
You can choose to do purée or blw that’s you’re own choice. I did blw with both my two children and couldn’t imagine giving them puree, I’ve found it’s far easier just to give them appropriate portions to what we eat and let them feed themselves. That allows to all eat together at the dinner table and they slowly pick up table manners from us ☺️ x
6 months is the recommended age. I started a couple of weeks early, just giving him tastes of purees on a weaning spoon. When he turned 6 months we stopped purees, went to BLW. He was such a hungry baby though and we were told to start earlier (4 months, but i held off as long as possible) by our hv and a doctor x
@gemini95, blw means baby led weaning. It's essentially giving real food to baby's not purée, not mashed etc. You can steam or cook til soft but serve in an age appropriate way.
For example my daughters first food was carrots and broccoli which I steamed well and then cut into finger length batons, which is better for a baby to pick up and munch as they increase and improve their fine motor skills xx
I was told to wait until baby can sit unaided. We did blw and it really worked for us but it’s totally a personal preference. We just started with soft veg and baby porridge. Also baby rusks were a big hit to xx
