Is it normal for newborns to forget how to breathe or look like they’re having trouble breathing?
It freaks me out.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think newborns only try to breathe out of their nose and don’t realize they can breathe through their mouth, so if their nose is blocked, that could be another reason. Our baby got a cold at 2 weeks, and his nose was stuffed and we noticed he was trying so hard to breathe through his nose no matter how stuffed it was
Not sure how often you're doing it, but I suggest doing more skin to skin with the baby. It helps them to regulate their breathing, as well as stabilize heart rate, stress levels, temperature, and blood sugar.
@lunachar62, me too. I wAs thinking the same thing. We learn something new everyday
@babymay2016, I freaked out. It was scary because I didn’t know. But thank you guys for helping me out @babyttsmommy
He gets hiccups a lot too. Everything’s just so scary lol
@lunachar62 not everyone knows the same stuff, thats why im on this app, to educate myself & others❤ we learn something new everyday😍
My son did this a lot when he was tiny... And it freaked me out so much I swear I never ever slept. It is normal though but very nervewracking.
@abigaill theres articles you can read about breath-holding spells in babies & children, its common & natural, should outgrow that by the time they turn 5 or 6 if not younger❤
@babyttsmommy, thank you for easing my nerves. It’s scary for a ftm not knowing some things.
@lunachar62 dont make her freak out mama, its natural for babies to do this ❤
@abigaill yes😣 my son has been doing that since the day he was born, thats why they kept him in the NICU for longer😫 but hes been home from the NICU for almost 10 months now & hes 11 months old, still freaking holding his breath!! He does it everyday all throughout the day, even when hes awake😶
@suz., his nose looks clear but I’ll check. Thanks!
