Sorry for the long post, I need to rant. So, the past few months I have kind of noticed signs of someone being in our house while we were gone, door left open, chair reclined back that wasn’t, and back in May I woke up to hearing someone in our house, but the only two home were me and my daughter. She started crying and they ran out the door. Last month we had a tweaker parked around the block just sitting there, doesn’t even live around here..until we call the cops and he was arrested. Well this past week I heard a gun shot outside my window and saw the flash from it. Now mind you, I live in the country so I’m accustomed to hearing guns, but not outside my window at 11p.m. I put my kids in a room with no windows and tell them to lock it and stay there, check all my doors,I message the neighbor boys and ask if they’re shooting anything off and they weren’t. I wake up my bf and tell him what I heard. He tells me I’m crazy and the light outside must have burnt out and goes back to bed. Well guess what, the next day we find out that the farmers shed behind our house had a truck stolen from it WITH a gun in it as well as some other things from neighboring farms. It really pisses me off that my bf just has blown off all the things I’ve noticed lately, especially when I was right!! We live in the middle of nowhere it’s supposed to be safe, and I thought as a man it’s like “their duty” to keep their family safe. I mean we have guns, he could have at least looked outside or something. But since I clearly can’t count on him, and with the rising kidnappings that seem to just be getting closer and closer to home, I’m buying a pistol. Someone has to be able to protect me and these babies. Apparently it’s not going to be him, and I’m not going to let me or my kids live in fear, especially not in their own home.

Girl I live in the middle of nowhere too and although we were once perfectly safe to leave our door unlocked, times have changed and NOWHERE can be assumed safe anymore! In fact, i think areas like ours are being targeted more because these fucking LOSERS think that noone is around out here or that they're less likely to be seen. They really need to start thinking this through though cause us country folk DON'T PLAY and WILL shoot your ass! Is my TV, my kids 4 wheeler or ANY damn thing that's at MY house really worth you dying over?!?!
It's really sad to me that my kid(s) can't grow up as care free as we did. I mean, can you imagine letting your kids leave on their bikes in the morning and sayin "be home by dinner"?!?! NO way...TOO much can happen!
I say, mama needs to learn how to use and get very comfortable with at least one of the guns in your home. In a situation where someone is in your home, threatening your family or even making you FEEL threatened, you can't waste precious seconds trying to figure out how a weapon operates. We are a VERY pro gun, hunting family with more gun safes than we have people in this house and feel VERY strongly about gun safety, knowledge and proper usage/storage. I think if your going to have guns in your house you NEED to be VERY aware of all things mentioned above.
If your BF isn't going to take it/ you seriously then you just make sure you can handle a weapon with or without him. Grab one of his guns, that you think you could get comfortable using, and go out in the back yard and practice practice practice. Start with a smaller caliber until you get the feel for it.
Unfortunately this sad world isn't getting any better and one day you just MIGHT have to do the unthinkable. When that time comes I PROMISE you will not regret having taken the time to get comfortable using that weapon that's gonna potentially save your babies lives.
Wow, didn't mean for that to be so long! I just understand how you're feeling mama and also feel VERY strongly about proper gun usage and the safest way to utilize them in a dangerous situation.

@leonardsquared, I totally agree! We are very pro guns and we have several in our home. And I’m actually a super good shot. But I want a gun that’s mine that only I touch. That I’m comfortable with and know where the bullets are. I refuse to take any chances when it comes to my family. My kids don’t even feel safe sleeping in their tents in our own yard and I makes me so mad. At their age I could sneak out and roam town and literally not have to worry.
My boyfriend never takes that stuff seriously so mama will just take matters into her own hands. The worlds a scary place.
