For today's chat we're going to talk about breastfeeding and pumping in honor of World Breastfeeding Week! Both can seem complicated or stressful, but remember you have lots of support here! With my first son I had things going against us for breastfeeding. I wish I knew back when he was younger that we could have still tried! With my second son I was determined to breastfeed, and even though he was born 11 weeks early I wasn't going to let that stop us from trying to breastfeed! For 7 weeks I pumped every 2 1/2-3 hours on the dot to establish and maintain my milk supply. When your little one is born early they usually need time to master sucking, swallowing, and breathing so I wasn't able to nurse right away. When my son was 33 weeks gestational (so 4 weeks old) we were finally able to latch on, and he did great! By 36 weeks gestational we had successfully started breastfeeding, and today marks 21 months of actual at-breast breastfeeding for us! I am passionate in trying to help moms-to-be and moms with breastfeeding and/or pumping, but I support moms who choose not to or for other reasons cannot breastfeed. Remember, I mentioned I didn't breastfeed my first son. I understand both sides. Breastfeeding isn't always easy, but I believe it's at least worth trying! Because I have to be on mental health medication after birth I am unable to breastfeed😔 what are some good formulas for babies? I know breast is best but I can’t be on the medication I need and breast feed.
Breastfeeding is hard. It's pushed on you as "the right thing to do". I had a hard time with my milk not comeing in and then a drop in my supply. So I formula fed my baby when he was still hungry after breastfeeding. Not everyone has an easy time and it can actually be very painful to some. I got lucky to have a baby who has a perfect latch so I had no pain. Even with a good latch I still got milk blisters. Although I wanted to breastfeed and was all for it I considered stopping so many times. People like to say "it's free to breastfeed" umm no, electric pump $300+, replacement parts $50+, breast pads $10 a box, nursing bras $12-$20 each, nipple creams $6-$10, storage bags $10 a box and when your baby starts to bottle feed prepare yourself for a guessing game with all the "best" bottles for breastfeed babies. Yes it's the best for your child and yes I support it 100% but NO ONE should be judged for not breastfeeding. You do not know the reason why that mother didn't breastfeed. If the baby is healthy and fed let them be. P.S. 6months of breatfeeding 💕
I always hear about "alot" of ladies getting induced at 37-39 weeks without a medical reason...but I honestly never see these posters. If you were "medically" induced between 37-39 with no medical reason, please share. Straight up being nosey, no judgement 🤷🏾 ♀

@amberjacq, girl I may not understand what you went through and I can only imagine how difficult it’s been for you to accept, but I feel for you and your situation! I’m sure you and your son still have an amazing bond and that he loves you just as much as he would’ve if breastfeeding did work out for you... and if not, more. ❤️

I breastfed my son for almost 2 months but then my body stopped producing milk, the doctors couldn’t figure out why my body done this but it hurt my feelings big time when it happen I so badly wanted to breastfeed my son and it hurt know my body physically was not able to

I agree. Breastfeeding is so amazing. I love the bond I have with my baby girl.

@priscilla.nicole.tansy, It really wasn’t bad. He only bit me a few times so it wasn’t really an issue. He would just want to nurse more when teeth were coming in to give him some comfort.

Breastfeeding is the most beautiful thing in the world. I breastfed my son for 14 months & I was thinking today how much I missed it.

@amberrosiee, oh my goodness, that sounds rough! I would’ve been frustrated, I bet you were. How awesome that things worked out for you in the end though, kudos to you for not giving up!

My first would not latch and having a bottle didn't help so I exclusively pumped for almost 2 months. Now my second latched almost right away and have ebf since and even though the let down is hard to get through I'm loving every minute of it.
