Non pregnancy related. I need advice about my dog licking and scratching all the damn time. My husband and I are ready to strangle her. We've given her tons of baths, fish oil, Claritin and Benadryl like the vet said. This has been going on for about 2 months now. Anyone else have ideas or have a dog like this?
Have you considered hot spots? We had a doberman great dane mix we rescued and he would lick the tops of his feet until theyre blistered and raw. He was morbidly obese and ill so we worked with him for a long time and he was doing amazing. The vet ruled it was his anxiety and boredom that caused his behavior
@spookylyn She's about 80 pounds and her backs comes just under my hip I'm 5'6. She licks and scratches all over. Mostly her sides and front legs mostly. Her front legs are starting to turn pink and red.
@laniejay Ya the other thing the vet said was pills that were $75 a week. As a stay at home mom with baby #2 coming soon we can't afford almost a $400 a month just on pills for the dog. I'll have to try the yogurt and then one time try the egg.
Thanks ladies! We stopped giving her the food that had chicken. Now we'll have to look into grain free. I'm tired of getting 5 hours of sleep due to her constant licking and scratching. I'm grateful for the ideas cus I'm at the end of my rope.
My dog used to do that until I swapped his food. More expensive of course, but less expensive than all the extras the vet recommended. And we can’t bathe him too often or he dries out. We put an egg in his food once a month to help his coat and skin.
I agree with mommy also. My dog has a grain and chicken allergy. He’s on a limited ingredient food. But I noticed because he wasn’t gaining any weight and super skinny. Never really itched.
She could be allergic to something in her dog
Food, id try cutting out grains and chicken. Get her a dog
Food with limited ingredients, and change up the flavor of food. I use to work in a pet store and most dogs who did that were either allergic to chicken or grains.
@britt. We adopted her from the pound so we have no idea. The breed they told us is completely wrong. When we took her to the vet the first time they checked her for bugs. She really only goes outside to use the bathroom
My grandmas dog had an issue with yeast, and nothing vet related worked. Had to put yogurt in his food.
I second the allergy. what are you feeding her?
