What solids or “meals” did you feed your 6 month olds? My son has had the following “first foods” so far: banana , apples, zucchini , baby oatmeal, sweet potato, avocado. All puréed. I’m just wondering when I can start giving him MEAL meals.
@carusod91 if you're worried about the choking there's a few pointers and vids to learn the difference between gagging and choking. Just cut everything small and bitesize to begin with and see how it goes.
@honeymoonblessing, is egg ok to give at 6 months? I thought you had to do that at 1 year
@honeymoonblessing, wait so I can already introduce all that at 6 months?? He’ll chew properly and not choke?
Just realized i didnt answer your post very thoroughly. Im not sure about full meals. Im guessing the focus would be how they react to each new food introduced one at a time first. If all is well then u can do a varied meal. But their main source of nutrition is milk and food is a topper right? So my question would be about quantity but that would vary from baby to baby I would assume.
British columbia public health suggested high iron foods first. Meat, lentils, spinach. Ive been told to do meat/bland food first, then veggies, with fruit last. Babies might favour high natural sugar fruits before they try other food groups. I have yet to introduce my baby to food. How exciting!
I fed him little bits of what I was eating. Eggs and toast, steamed veggies, certain meats minced up.
Baby led weaning is a good way to go. To start off with I would give toast then I started to introduce boiled egg.
For lunch: pasta, a few slices of cheese, ham and a soft fruit.
Dinner: whatever we were having like rice and a few bites if chicken, steamed carrots, sweetcorn & cabbage.
Keep it small and simple to start with. Seems like your baby is already trying a range of food so it could be an easy transition for you.
So I guess this babyled weaning thing makes sense! The idea of giving him Purées was confusing me haha I could never tell when he wanted it too!
