Sounds like you need to just take him every 30 minutes until the accidents seem to stop. You can employ the "you have to practice technique" when he has an accident as well. When he has an accident you limit how upset you get. You just say oh no you had an accident. I can see we have to practice. Then you walk from the accident spot to the potty take off pants sit on the potty and repeat 3 times. Also at this age you have them clean the mess and put the clothes in washer. All the things you hate doing have them do. It will stop being a joke when they realize the whole day is only potty training and then the want to do other things will motivate them.

@angelfoodcake just Have to be consistent. It takes time.

@mct I don't know if he has a active bladder or what but we are going about every 15 mins, either we Catch it or he's already went - and honestly not getting upset about it. I just talk to him and he says "okay" and change him up.

I honestly think it boiling down to maturity and him being lazy - I believe he understands the concept but doesn't want to stop doing what ever he is doing

@angelfoodcake honestly, 3 days. We stayed home and let him be naked. Every 15 min he went to the potty. Then every 30, then every hour. Eventually it just clicked.

I did the fruit loop thing... put a fruit loop in the toilet and told him to make it move. Sounds silly but it worked and it was fun... it was either “ooooh look I made it move!” Or “oh no I made the water move mommy.”

Download the pull-ups potty training app it’s a timer set it for every 30 minutes and if he goes they have a game he can play as a reward. It helped with mine. Hope this helps

@angelfoodcake I doubt its maturity.. I taught my daughter at 18 months. No matter when you do it it is a real pain and super frustrating. Are you using diapers? I couldn't get it to work until I ditched the pull ups and went with actual underwear. We even let her pick it out. She picked cats and dogs. Then when she did have an accident I'd talk about how the kitty was crying because he was all wet ect... We even had a storytime book about the potty with a sticker tiara that we decorated with a jewel each time she went on the potty and we gave her bunny gram crackers as a treat every time she went successfully. Those were all my tricks after the first month she got sick and it was all too much so we took a break until I was ready and then after a month went back and it was just instant. She was officially potty trained by 20 months. Some moms say that they just can't get there and I know every kid is different. That just happens to be my so far experience in case it helps. I know boys are tougher and I'm nervous for my next one to start. Good luck!

@mct I've tried underwear and pull ups. And they say girls are easier, but I dunno. I think each kid is different regardless. I say maturity because he understands, but just doesn't like to stop doing whatever he's doing - that's the main thing I've noticed.
