So on a rather serious mommy note, I have some questions about breast feeding and milk supply. Some background on my breast feeding journey, I gave birth via c section at 38 weeks and my son was rushed to the NICU because he wasn’t breathing properly. I started pumping the minute I got back to the room, I got a few drops but not much. I kept pumping for about three weeks and kept getting just a few drops, I tried actually breast feeding twice and both times my son got very upset because he wasn’t getting enough milk. Now it’s been almost a year since my son was born but last night my breasts were hurting so I massaged them and some drops of milk came out, especially out of my right breast. So I tried pumping to see if any would come out and no luck, but I got a few more drops via my hands. Would it be worth it for me to invest in a better pump to try and finally get a let down??

I feel like I still have a lot of milk but it’s never let down. This has been happening about every month since my son was born and I’m sick of my breasts hurting and then only a little bit of milk coming out, either stop or let down already!!!!

@aliceinwonderland_, I agree especially because he was in the NICU and really could have used my breast milk. They actually told me to stop pumping after about three weeks because my supply was so low 😣 but thank you for the info!! I’m going to my son’s doctor today so I’ll ask!

@anchetakionafe, some will be different than others. They should have done more than that for you. Your son's doctor or your OB should be able to recommend places

@aliceinwonderland_, I did in the NICU and she wasn’t much help at all, just kept saying positive things and recommended expensive supplements. But maybe some are different than others, would I ask my doctor to recommend a lactation nurse to me?

@anchetakionafe, have you ever seen a lactation nurse? I'd start there if you want to try to produce more

@aliceinwonderland_, honestly I’m not even sure what I want, I mean I want to be able to breastfeed and produce milk but I feel like it’ll never happen and it’s too late for my son but if I can some how make my supply sufficient then I’ll try it. I tried supplements and lactation cookies and nothing helped me. It just kinda gives me hope that maybe I still can produce but also feels like a slap in the face because I only ever get a few drops 😰😣

I'm with Lanie. I invested in a better pump with my second and still barely got anything from it so it was a waste. Yet I breastfed my first until 21mo and and am still breastfeeding my second whose under a yr with no supply problems.

If drying up is what you want to do I don't know if pumping will help though. I've yet to go down that path so I'm no help there.

I think I’m just going to buy a simple manual pump and go from there, hand express and manual pump because this pressure on my breasts is way too much to handle anymore.

@laniejay, hand expressing only gets me so much, I’ve never been able to get a full let down but I feel like it’s still possible because especially last night they felt engorged and very uncomfortable.

Hand express if you want, but some people just don’t respond to pumps. I could never pump much, but ebf my youngest for 15 months
