So I have a short cervix and today is my follow up appointment to check on it. 🤦🏾 ♀ 🤦🏾 ♀ 🤦🏾 ♀ stressed

@rndmshtt, apparently it’s relatively new research in the past few years. She said bed rest is very controversial now. I was shocked to hear it too. She’s too in her field in the nation though, so I imagine that’s for a reason.

You can have a short cervix without having an incompetent cervix.

@laniejay, Oh really? I dont know. Maybe it varies case by case. I had preterm labor at 16 weeks. I remember every detail of it 😞

So the next pregnancy they watched me carefully and saw how dramatic my cervix shortened. Thats when they diagnosed me of having an incompetent cervix. So i was literally on bedrest from 16 weeks till 36 weeks. I had a cerclage put in by 18 weeks.

is short cervix a different thing from an incompetent cervix? LOl

@rndmshtt, my MFM doesn’t put people on bedrest for a short cervix. She said in most cases it does more harm then good.

@tierraaelizabeth, what about progesterone shots? or suppositories? i wonder why your dr. is not putting you on bedrest / pelvic rest.

at least they are monitoring you weekly. ( i think its nice because you get to watch baby grow 😍 i have ultrasound pics of her every 1 or 2 weeks 😂 )

&’ thankfully no. i had her 7 days before my due date.

@rndmshtt Ok. My Dr told me I'm to far to get a cerlage because it risk an infection and breaking my water so I'm going in weekly. I haven't been put on bed rest or pelvic rest yet but I'm still so nervous. Did you go into preterm labor?

Mhm, just wondering. Because thats what i have.

I ended up having a cerlage to keep my cervix from shortening any further &’ I was also on strict bedrest as well as pelvic rest the entire pregnancy. I also had progesterone shots weekly.

I was down to 1.1 left of my cervix at 18 weeks so they didnt even expect i’d make it pass 21 weeks.

They monitored me every two weeks and sometimes weekly.

I had a 23 weeker for unexplained reasons so my next pregnancy I was so fearful and watched closely. Every week it went down .5cm. I calculated it out and wouldn’t even make viability at that rate. Then one week *bam* up to 2.8cm and it stayed that way (well between 2.8 and 3.1). There is hope. Have faith. Good part is they are monitoring you.

Best of luck 🤞🏼 fingers crossed it has lengthened. Mine kept shortening and then one week it went back up and stayed there. My MFM said that’s not uncommon as the cervix is a muscle too.
