Public service announcement:
The posts I made yesterday were not meant to offend or exclude any other women in any way. Because truth is anyone with hair coming out of their scalp has "Natural" hair, lol. The fact of the matter is there are different types of "Natural Hair" type meanings.
Another term for "Natural" is ethnic Hair that hasn't had any chemical process to straighten it.
Some ethic hair types use relaxers/ aka perms. That straightens our hair...You know just how with non- ethnic hair a "perm" gives artificial curls?
Also, with ethnic hair artificial curls the term is "jheri curl and processed". Ethnic hair types wore it a lot in the 80/90's.
There is more than one term for a word. The kind of "Natural" hair I'm reffering too doesn't mean it's not colored, just means you haven't done anything purposed to change the texture.
The kind of Natural hair I was talking about uses different methods to maintain the curl, like wash and go's, twist outs, braid outs, etc.
Some people focus on maintaining their natural curl pattern only. Often the curls are even referenced as "Kinky Hair".
The kind of Natural hair that I was talking about some woman like to do a lot of braiding hair styles. Some people where a twa, a fro, etc. It get's deep. Some women where dreadlocks, sisterlocks, freeform (like what I have in my profile pic).
There are always different types of curl patterns within the "Natural" world - that actually can apply to any hair type. But mostly non-ethnic hair is in Wavy 2A. Wavy 2B. Wavy 2C.Curly 3A. Curly 3B. Curly 3C category.
Ethnic hair usually more so Curly 3A. Curly 3B. Curly 3C. Kinky 4A. Kinky 4B. Kinky 4C.
The kind of Natural hair I was talking about there's something called a "Big chop" - when you are in the process of wearing your hair unprocessed for the first time.
Some ladies need help with maintenance, even emotionally with that. Some ethnic women even today wouldn't dare "Go Natural".
For the ethnic community it can get deep, being that at one time it was basically culture and socially correct to maintain a processed hair style.
Some "naturals" have experienced rejection of job/school opportunities and criticism because of wearing their hair unprocessed aka "Natural". Discrimination.
It's almost like a movement for some to embrace their natural hair texture. Doesn't always have to be that serious either.
That's like it being a social norm for every white person to have a perm - and if you didn't have a perm you are looked as different or rebel.
From where I stand when I say ethnic I'm talking of Black/Hassian/African/Bi-racial hair mostly. Mostly people of those groups including some Pureto Ricans, Dominicans, Ethopian, have a tighter have type/coils. But of course different hair comes from all different places.
I hope this helps for knowledge purposes.
If someone was confused, that’s one thing. But no one should have been offended.. you said absolutely nothing wrong. No need to defend yourself, but you did do a great job explaining what you meant for anyone who may have simply just been confused.
@izzyaspie Your hair is supa cute btw
@izzyaspie
I just texted my sister to ask her where she took my niece. She said it's a place in the mall so may have found one 🤗
@angelfoodcake
My hair is fine when it's short not layered but something about it's length makes it thicker. Idk how to explain it 🤷. I don't have a picture of it more recent that was right after I cut it myself but I can't leyer it by myself.
@nerdymommyplus2 it's looks pretty to me
@angelfoodcake
Nope I've never had a stylist listen to me. It also needs to be layered..... I had a tangle. Took a week to get out because it was under the top layer of my hair.
I've Tried to find curly specialist but no luck.
@nerdymommyplus2 I wonder if a natural hair stylist would have any luck, I mean I know it's not quite the same but still coiled hair.
Not even a stylist who does perms can do it right for you?
@angelfoodcake
I was guessing.
My problem is every salon I go to. They cut my hair straight across when it's wet and they have it pulled and straighten so of course when it's dry it's crooked as hell
@nerdymommyplus2 Yes, Hassian from Haiti.
I found that with hair, esep curly/kinky hair, you really gotta find what works for you, trial and error really.
Still learning my hair been natural since 2006
I don't even know my curl pattern because I can't find a salon who knows wtf they're doing 😭🤦
Also just nor educated but what's hassian (is that Haiti?) .

@nerdymommyplus2 you can google your curl pattern. Other than having what seems to be the most common type of kinky, coily hair, google and youtube was how I found out my texture
