Dear Bella,

I have never been a dog person. I mean I’ve always loved dogs, but I never cared to have any around as an adult, because it always seemed to be just to hard. I could never get any trained, I despised cleaning up the surprises they can leave in your carpet, and I was always afraid of getting to close to one because I knew they would one day be gone. So when Chris brought you to live with us and be a part of our family, almost 6 years ago now, I was really skeptical. I won’t lie, I didn’t like the idea at first, but I knew how important you were to Chris and I wanted to give it a chance.

It turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to me. You have grown on me to the point where I just can’t imagine our lives without you. You are such an amazing dog. You immediately became best friends with my girl and when Will came around, boy did you really show me the love a dog can have for a human! You were protecting him before he was even born. Constantly hovering around my big belly as if you already knew there was a tiny human in there and no matter how many times he has pulled your hair or hit you over the past 2 years, you have never once snapped at him. You just let him do it and yet you still jump when he seems to be in trouble and you still give him kisses when you see him. You are his best friend. He has even learned how to pet you now. You bring him so much comfort.

I’m gonna need you to come home to us ok? I need you to get better and I need you to stay with us for many years to come. You are one of my children now and I love you dearly. You have shown me a kind of wordless love that I didn’t know could exist. You understand our boy even though he also has no words. You are such a blessing to our family.
