I love how we have all these fake doctors on mom life, if you know so much why do you even have the app. If you don’t have MD attached to your name please don’t try to give medical advice and if you ladies are listening to women with no medical degrees and have been practicing medicine then you’re crazy.

Changed my name so I can tell people to buckle their kids in correctly and not give food until 6 months.

Can we have some context here? I think telling others not to drink caster oil is alright. Or sharing that the AAP and WHO now recommend waiting until 6m to start solids. What kind of advice are you referring to?

@lee-lee, I’ve seen stupid doctors. Stupid doctors almost cost my child his life. If you truly believe that doctors are omniscient and are never wrong, that is extremely dangerous. More dangerous than reading this so called “advice” you keep saying you’re seeing. You’re misinterpreting someone educating someone on something - which is supposed to encourage them to speak with a doctor AND do their own research. Btw- I’m not an MD and am far more educated in some areas than my pediatrician. Does that make him a bad pedi? Nope. He can’t know everything.

@lee-lee, just because you’re a doctor doesn’t mean you’re not stupid? I suffer from migraines that blind me and leave my limbs and face numb. The first time it happened, I saw a doctor who told me it sounded like I’d had a mini stroke and sent me on my way! He was stupid, giving out stupid advice.

@laniejay, yes but that’s what I’ve seen so that’s why I made the comment. I think some women don’t understand how the medicine works. No one should call a doctor out and say that doctor is stupid or take advise from someone whose not a md. If someone has read something or experienced something different then feel free to share your experiences or findings but to tell someone their doctor is stupid without knowing anything about medicine is just stupid

@scruffy.nerf.herder, but’s that’s my point but there’s ppl on here that think they can give medical advice based on whatever advice they received from their doctor. I didn’t say that no one should share opinions .

If someone can’t figure out that they should take what someone says and research it on their own and talk with their doctor... well then ... my meme from last night stands.

@lee-lee, riiiiiight which is why you should talk with a doctor or get a second opinion. I’ve never seen someone on here say “do this and don’t talk to a doctor about it”. People have said: your doctor is wrong, you should research this and get a second opinion.

I don't think anyone on here is giving "medical advice"; that would be outside our scope of practice, as we are not MD's!

However, we can certainly form opinions based on reading peer-reviewed medical research on current recommendations.

@olivbee, ok but my issue is how are you giving medical advice one when u don’t fully understand medicine and secondly when you don’t have that persons medical history to even give sound advice you can only give opinions not advice that’s my issue

What has prompted this? I’ve never seen anyone be advised not to seek medical treatment on here? In fact it seems like 90% of the time people are advised to go to ER regardless of what is wrong.

@laniejay, my issue is that we don’t know if someone has high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, Heart disease etc. we can’t tell someone that their doctor is full of shit and this article on google is better just because we like the treatment better. If your feel your doctor isn’t helping you get a second opinion from a doctor not some regular person on the street who doesn’t know your medical history.

It depends what it is. If someone says they’re doctor told them to feed their baby solids at 3 months then telling them not to listen to the doctor because that advice is outdated and has potential long term effects then you don’t need a medical degree or their medical notes to tell them that. If someone says they’re having blinding headaches and they’re told they don’t need a doctor and they’ll be fine then that’s wrong. Context is everything.

@bigmama18md today on facebook someone was asking advice on car seat safety, because their pediatrician told them it was UNSAFE for them to continue rear facing their child that just turned two. Pediatricians have no real training in car seat safety. He obviously had no idea what he was talking about. The husband wants to go ahead and FF because "doctors orders" uhhh

I get what you're saying but context matters in a situation like that. Are women giving advice about something minor or something that could potentially be dangerous?

@lee-lee, you realize there are credible sources on the internet, correct? If you know how to research properly, you can look right where a doctor would. If you think they don’t look things up, you’d be wrong there. And I don’t think anyone expects someone to take medical advice and follow it. Conversation is to educate and give them something to question and speak with their doctor on or get a second opinion.

@mrschanandlerbong95, I agree and that’s all I’m saying. If something someone said sparked your interest bring it up to your doctor. But making recommendations for someone to check with their doctor is one thing but some women are giving out medical advice with no license.

@scruffy.nerf.herder, yes but get a second opinion from another doctor on top of whatever article you are reading and make sure it’s from a medical journal not a blogs. Have a conversation with your doctor about your findings not other mothers who know just as little about medicine as you yourself.

Some doctors aren't up to date on the most recent recommended practices. So you shouldn't just blindly follow, but have a genuine dialogue with your medical provider.

I’ve seen people give some pretty solid medical advice. If it’s legitimate advice, it’s legitimate advice. It doesn’t necessarily have to come straight from a doctors mouth. With that being said, I hope nobody would just blindly take advice from a stranger on the internet without looking into it themselves first.
