Hey guys. I apologize, this will jump around a little. Today DD had blood drawn with the intentions to look for inflammation along with other markers. The doctor is trying to rule out Lupus, Juvenile Arthritis, and Lyme disease.
It all started in December. DD complained of her feet hurting during dance. It was passed off as growing pains. In June, she started waking up with her feet hurting. She said it felt like walking on balloons. Once again, growing pains.Then she started having knuckle pains while clenching in July. She complained of blurry vision and her eyes burning when she closed them. At the time, I noticed no swelling.
This past Saturday, she had a limp. It resolved within a couple hours. But, the pain within her arch did not go away.
I was able to get her into the eye doctor right away in the beginning of July, but had to wait until today to get into the family doctor - my normal is booked out till August. I knew this doctor would take my concerns seriously. I didn't want growing pains to be said again as I truly felt something is going on.
At her eye appointment, the doctor said that she has dry spots on her eyes which can be a symptom of autoimmune disorders - or maybe sleeping with eyes open.
While at the family doctor, I stated the above concerns. He felt her joints, and moved up to her knuckles. Some of her knuckles on her left hand are swollen. It's also on the same side as the instance of the limp with foot pain in her arch. I'm really worried and trying to stay of google but I absolutely hate the unknown. Blood work for lupus will take a little over a week, but the rest should be here before that. Does anyone know of or deal with any autoimmune?

Aw I’m so sorry mama! I bet this is hard! My mom has an autoimmune disease but they’re all different and the one my mom has manifests itself with diff symptoms for every patient. All I can say is don’t give up. Make sure they get to the bottom of it. Hang in there. Lots of hugs and prayers for you and your LO

Oh that poor baby I just want to hug her 😭😭😭 Mama stay encouraged. Her symptoms can be a number of things so stay the collected pillar that she needs. She must be so confused.... For what it’s worth, my cousin has lupus but he’s never had joint pain... keep us posted. ❤️❤️❤️

I have SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus). In categorizing autoimmune disorders, it is a pretty bad one to have, but each person's symptoms and severity vary. I started to list out my symptoms, but I feel that doing so will only scare you further, which you don't need, especially as you aren't sure that is what she is up against. So, in general... If it is lupus, that simply put means that her body is attacking itself and causing various symptoms to appear. It does not have a cure as of right now, so you end up more symptom managing than anything with the disease. NSAIDS help with some people; others require heavier medication. It would all depends on what her symptoms are and the severity of those symptoms. I'm hoping that it isn't lupus, but if it is, feel free to talk to me any time about it. I was diagnosed back in 2013 and can give some tips for managing it.

@phoebesmommy thank you phoebe, I was feeling discouraged in the beginning. But after this last doctors appointment, (& eyes) I feel like I now have some weight behind my words to pursue this even harder.
@sincerepolicy thank you for the encouragement. Last night I was pretty emotional for her, but she seems ready to have her hands stop hurting more than anything.

@techie_grrl thank you for your input! I for sure will be talking with you soon should that be the case. Her symptoms seem to be getting worse and worse, but overall the severity hasn't impacted play besides behavior wise (such as super tired and just irritable) but I don't know if there is any link.

We have gone through testing for autoimmune disorders that cause swelling in joints and chronic hives. Thankfully all came back normal, and my son was diagnosed with chronic hives with angioedema, but we’re on month 5 of hives with joint swelling and it’s miserable to watch. 😕
