How often do woman have complications with breastfeeding like a clogged duct or something?
@mommynmotion, what she said 👆. Warm her up, message it to relax it further and breastfeed. I had actually layer ds down and hovered over him so that gravity could help bring it down. Worked like a charm
Clogged ducts come and go, like if you have a late feed or the baby sleeps longer then your body would like them to, not all the time does it cause more than a little discomfort.
@mommynmotion I would put a hot, not too hot, washcloth on the area. Message the area and then breastfeed or pump. Once I took a hot showers and messaged the area then pumped. .
Don't pump too early ~6 weeks or until your body regulates to what your baby eats. Done too soon and you can run into massive oversupply and fast letdown that can deter baby from the breast.
Feed on demand, if you still feel full you can hand express in the shower. Don't stress too much over it, it's a natural learning curve
@mommynmotion you. Get to know your lactation consultant too. Mine was great to talk to especially if I was prescribed any medication. Doctors try but they really don't know what's ok or not ok to take while breastfeeding.
@thom6597, what did you do to unclog it?
In the 10 months I bf I had 3 clogged ducts. Easily unclogged in an hour or so.
@nyramak, @asandovaln, @honeywax, so basically if I pump and feed regularly I should be fine?
I had a clogged duct at the beginning because I hadn't regulated and was producing too much. Pretty easy to get rid of if you tackle it straight away
I’ve been going 16 months now & haven’t had any issues. 🤞🏽
At the beginning I had them a lot.. pretty much whenever I didn’t empty my breast
In almost 11 months of breastfeeding I've only have one issue with a clogged duct. Lasted about a week. Everything else was smooth sailing.
@honeywax, that’s genius!!! Thank you so much! I never thought of that I did that with my son I started pumping early bc my hospital literally told me to!and my boobs got so engorged and painful I just had to quit
