Let’s talk birth plans! There are so many options out there that best suits our bodies, desires & littles! I’ve chosen a midwife, unmedicated delivery at a birth centre or at home. Assuming I progress without complications! What’s your birth plan?
@spookylyn, We were the same. I had an emergency Csection, and as soon as baby was taken to the NICU that’s where Darrell went. I woke up alone no baby no hubby, but he was with her and that was the main thing. Once his mom arrived he’d run from her in the NICU to me with cell phone photos and little video clips. I got to meet her about ten hours later. I was glad we made the choice no matter what was going on with me he went with her. That being said before my csection the other kids were natural births no drugs not even an IV. There’s beauty in every delivery! But I stand by your choice that if baby leaves the hubby does too, and we went through that for nearly 12 hours before her and I could be together. In Red Deer they have rules about moms who are hooked up to blood transfusions can’t visit their babies in the NICU so it was about 11-12 hours before I could be wheeled down to hold her.
@lex_6, I agree! He totally understands the comfort point of view & loves the natural setting & all that stuff that I love about it too but I think I’ll have to encourage the midwife to discuss the clean up process 😂
@lex_6, That’s amazing! That’s a similar experience I’m seeking. Although we are all different no birth is alike but the idea of comfort & in your own space to relax & take your time is so appealing to me! I’m not worried about the noises or anything haha it’ll be winter my windows will be closed 😆 it’s my hubby but I know at the end of the day he’d want me happy & comfortable. But thank god time is on our side & when we sit down with our midwife I’ll discuss the home birth and hopefully get more of a visual on what it would look like & that’ll also make hubby more comfortable too after he’s educated on it. Either way I know it’ll be such a beautiful experience.
@lex_6, Haha the majority of our reasoning for going to a birthing centre is because my hubby is worried about the neighbours & my groaning/clean up lol but in my mind a birthing centre is a perfect compromise as it’s like home. Although home is ideal, exactly as you stated crawling in bed right after 😍 being so comfortable is my goal. We met with our midwife July 24th so by then I hope to come to a clear conclusion on home or centre. I’m leaning towards home, & getting a pool. Did you have a pool or is your tub workable?
@lex_6, Thank you for this 😍 I love hearing women’s experiences especially when a midwife & water birth were in play. It sounds like you had a beautiful experience ♥️ I’m looking forward to our story! 🤱🏽♥️
@spookylyn, There is so much beauty in birth ♥️ it’s so important we take control of our experience. I’m glad I have to the mindset to do so & it sounds like you do too ☺️
@squishymommy1, They did mention that on information night. We still have time to discuss it, I’m 11 weeks 4 days & our midwife meet & greet is July 24 so by then we’ll know whether home or birthing centre is best. Either way, comfy is my goal. ♥️ Thank you for all the info! If I have anymore midwife experience questions do you mind if I give you a shout out?
It’s really not messy. And any mess there is the midwives clean up. Your not cleaning it up! You’re both just snuggling and bonding with baby while everyone cleans and leaves the house cleaner then they found it.
@squishymommy1, Ok, that’s great. I’ll have to discuss it with my midwife but it’s an option for sure. I’d love to be home but my hubby thinks it’ll be so messy if it’s on our bed, & because our tub isn’t accessible that cancels that out & a birthing centre is equally as appealing & signifies a home so I can compromise however if we can get a tub in our living room that’ll save us a ton 🤑
@teashaszarak, usually homebirth midwives have portable tubs they provide. You can buy your own too. We have the stock tank for clients and the birth pool in a box (which is what we used)
@squishymommy1, That’s amazing! I totally get the pull to do it professionally, to be apart of a pregnant women’s journey to help her fulfill her birth plan.. This is something I need to talk to my midwife about (first appointment July 24) do they provide the tub? Or do we buy one?
@teashaszarak, we used a blow up tub. We also have a stock tank that we use for births too (I assist in births with my midwife)
@squishymommy1, That’s what leads me to the birthing centre also, we don’t have a tub that’s very assessable. Whereas they’re all set up with a corner tub so you can imagine the space!
@squishymommy1, Right! For me I want to be as comfy as possible. First choice was home birth but after seeing the birthing centre my midwife is at it’s equally as appealing. No clean up. lol how did yours go? 6 kiddos! 💪🏽

@spookylyn, My emergency csection fell before my OR date and my OBGYN was in Las Vegas..we’d asked him to do it Thursday, and he booked it the following Wednesday. Sure as heck I went into labour the day after we requested he do it, but he knew he’s be away so booked it a couple days later. He did my D&C yesterday and expressed how horrible he felt about that and our loss which he was also away for. I also work with him he’s prob my favourite OB in the red deer area.
