It's been summed up decently already, but it's a sudden, nether region (pelvic, vaginal, even rectal) nerve pain that jolts through you like lightening, hence the name. That being said, you'll know instantly if it happens to you and usually it is nothing to worry about...it's often attributed to baby sitting on, or kicking a cluster of nerves that lie near your cervix.
It's like an electric shot through your vagina, can go to your rectum also. I had one just a few days ago and baby I jumped up so quick.. I was laying down lol
