When you drink just casually at home with kids do you always make sure at least one adult is sober?
Like if your husband wants to have one beer at night would you stay sober just in case or would you have one beer as well?
I just feel like someone should stay completely sober just in case something happens. We're on vacation staying with his mom and have three kids with us. God forbid something happens to one if everyone has been drinking who's going to drive them to the hospital?
My husband thinks I'm crazy for it and is getting mad im asking him to not drink one night so I can.
Am I being crazy? Is it no problem for everyone to have one beer?

You’re on vacation.... have a drink or two, if a true emergency were to happen you could call an ambulance although I’m sure it’s unlikely. I don’t see a problem unless you’re both getting incoherent drunk.

I usually wait until the kids are in bed to partake. The odds of an emergency happening then are slim. That way we can both have a beverage or two. If we’re out at a party or restaurant only one will drink, so the other can drive.

I don't see a problem as long as no one is getting wasted. So a couple beers is fine. Nothing wrong with having a little buzz to relax. Also @janeljade1985 I agree with u also

Both my SO and I drink (obviously not now that I’m pregnant). Usually if it’s around family (or family is near) and if we feel we have too much, we can ask for a ride home. Last summer, we went to Cali and took Uber’s. Our son was with us. You can have drinks and not be wasted. If we drink at home we don’t really try to limit ourselves. If God forbid something crazy happens to our son then sober or not my ass is calling 911 for help. Drinking together & our son being around isn’t taboo to us. If it’s wine though he knows he will keep an eye on the amount I drink bc wine is the only drink that’ll really make me super drunk. I usually limit myself to two or three (and that’s a lot lol). @mmmcano

My so and I will have a couple drinks together after the kids go to bed or if we have people over everyone will drink. Someone is always sober enough to deal with the kids though. We don't drive anyways so if there was an emergency sober or not we'd have to call an ambulance or someone else to drive us @laniejay I don't think it would raise any red flags unless it was a weird injury or both parents were sloppy drunk or it was a regular occurrence

Normally me and my partner have a drink together but we make it last a good two hours instead of half hour to an hour if ds was in bed asleep.
When we are out my so will have a drink and then nothing till we get home.
I'm barely a drinker so it's very rare for me to have more then one when I do drink.

No one thinks it would raise a red flag to call an ambulance because both parents are unable to drive when a child got hurt or needed medical attention? 😬 or the parents both smell like booze?

If my husband chooses to have a beer at dinner or while on vacation I usually wait until the kids are in bed if I'm going to drink which is very rare anyway

Thank y'all. He's staying sober lol.
We would wait until they are asleep but they don't go to sleep until very late. So that's out of the question. 🙄

@rowdy-vajazzy I thought you couldn't have any alcohol in your system if a kid is in the car?

I don’t think one or two beers is an issue unless you have a super low tolerance. I have a beer a few nights a week, while dh very rarely drinks. But even if he had one drink, I wouldn’t see a problem.

@modom16, 👌🏻 better safe than sorry and paying out three grand while you bleed out or sit with a child who has a broken leg for a half hour before help arrives.

@glencoco, it’s unlikely anyway

@mmmcano, 1 or 2 beers? I honestly don’t think that would be a big deal. Space them out if you feel like it would cause you to become drunk.

I agree, one of the parents should stay sober if the other is drinking. That's how we operate.

Oh that wouldn’t bother me. In the unlikely event of an emergency, you can legally drive after one beer.

My husband doesn’t drink. At all. We smoke cannabis together when the kids are bed.
