Continued...Even just now, talking to my niece who said her doc told her if she fails 1 hour glucose then she has to take 3 hour and if she fails 3 hour they would be looking to induce.

But, I'm like that's a lot of hypothetical talk because even if you are gestational why would they presume induction already if they are hypothetically controlled?? Is that routine?

I don't remember being automatically put in the induction box when I was just gestational and controlled... But maybe things have changed?

Are you ladies who are gestational automatically being induced, controlled or not?

Managed care. Not evidence based medicine.

That’s why they do these things here. Because we have managed care in the US. Not evidence based medicine.

I supposedly had GD. At my 36 week ultrasound they said baby was 7lb 11 oz and I should talk induction at my next appointment. I told them to fuck off. (They also said I was full term at 36.4 🙄 and asked if I had a previous c-section or if I went the “easy way” so I had it). So yes they scare you and jump to induction.

He was only 7lbs 5 oz when he was born almost 3 weeks later

its ridiculous. My mom got a c section at 16 for no reason. Like no reason at all. I was that baby. Later in life when she got married and had kids she delivered naturally all of them. the c section was completely unnecessary and juct cause the doctor was lazy and got more money off of it

@laniejay So when you did have him/her was it induction?

I'm just not understanding why a Gest patient would be induced at all if weight is normal and sugar is controlled. I think that's crazy they already have that prospective with my niece...

@angelfoodcake, he came on his own at 37.6. they offer induction assuming that every GD baby will be huge.

@josefa @laniejay @squishymommy1 So I gave my niece my take, told her I'm def not a doc but at least ask a lot of questions, that way they at least can assume you have some knowledge and curiosity ya know. She's young .

@blakeslatinmama Yeah I'm reading more and apparently it is. It wasn't a while back though I think at that point they were allowing you to continue on if sugars were good.

There are a Lot of

Folks Walking around borderline diabetic

Or undiagnosed . In the third trimester your need for

Insulin/ blood sugar control is much greater than the other two trimesters . Baby can/will start making insulin for you to compensate if things aren’t under control, which isn’t good . Basically Their pancreas goes into overdrive. It really depends on the mom

@blakeslatinmama, I had a similar experience . My ob automatically induces at 39 weeks also. He planned to induce me at 37 but around 35 he decided not to and just go for 39 . She was 6 lbs 14 oz at 36.2 . I ended up having to be induced at 36.5 due to extremely high bp and she was born 37 weeks exactly at 7lbs. But I’m type 1 diabetic since 3 so a little

Different

@blakeslatinmama @momofemersonbliss my last Baby was induced at 36+6 because of protein in urine - baby had low blood at birth too, spent a few hours trying to get under control.

We're y'all taking insulin?

I had GD and was on insulin. My sugar was not under control without the insulin no matter what I ate. They wanted to induce me at 39 weeks but due to low fluid they induced at 38. They kept telling me how big my baby was but he was only 7.3lbs. I guess they induce so that it’s a controlled environment. That way they are ready if something happens.
