Any preemie moms give their LO higher calorie formula for longer period of time?

My daughter was on high calorie formula until she was a year old per her pediatrician.

I was actually breastfeeding my nicu baby but the drs said get the liquid gold and when your milk comes in we're switching him to high calorie formula which was Similac neosure

He was on it until he turned one

I pumped until my son was 10months, then his doctor put him on Neosure until he was 18months because he was so small. He is still very small for his age but he was also 1 pound 5oz at birth. I felt we should have given him more time.
