All of a sudden i’ve been in a funk over not being given the opportunity to breastfeed my daughter like i was told I would. The more I think about the situation the more it pisses me off. All the feeding issues we had in the nicu and the doctors wouldn’t even ENTERTAIN the idea of letting her try breastfeeding. I just don’t get it.

@mluvs7, my daughter was born at 33 weeks. The nicu staff promised they would let me try breastfeeding and they never did. She took a long time to get a hang of the bottle and I wanted to try breastfeeding and they wouldn’t let me. Then she started taking bottles and she sent her home. My supply dried up when she was a month old

@blakeslatinmama, I did pump. My supply went down and down because they wouldn’t let me try breastfeeding. Around 4-5 weeks I was producing nothing. and I drank my weight in water every day and ate healthy

I had the same issue. My daughter was born at 32 weeks and they never gave me the chance to try breastfeeding her. When she came home I tried but she couldn't get the hang of latching and was already used to the bottle. I did pump for a while, but it still bugs me that they didn't give me a chance to start while she was at the hospital.

@emily526, ugh. it’s so unfair. We’ve had so many issues with bottles and formula and I feel like things might have been so much easier if they would have just let me try what was “natural” for her. I wanted to call my obgyn to try to induce lactation again and relactate but idk if I should. My daugher will latch and suck but gets nothing out so she stops

@jtaylorg My daughter had no idea what to do when I tried to breastfeed her directly. She didn't even try to latch. It's easy for others to say oh why didn't you do this or that, but in the moment I was so frustrated with the hospital staff for not even allowing me to do what I thought was best, angry at myself for "failing" at breastfeeding when I did get to try, and also the whole time just afraid because I wanted my baby to have all she needed. She did get about a month or two of breast milk from when she came home and I was pumping but then I got less and less like you said and I stopped altogether. I would call and try and see if there is anything you can do at this point. I didn't ask anyone for help and I really regret it.
