I wouldn’t recommend that because your colostrum is very important for your newborn baby. And pumping would just make it go to waste.

I don’t understand your question. You’re not going to breastfeed. What are you asking about the pump? To induce labor? Because if you pump to try and do that, you are going to signal your body to start producing milk.

If you don’t plan on breastfeeding then I say go for it. But there are limitations on how long to do it. My midwife used to to help my labor along because contractions were going away before we tried pitocin. I know it’s less than five minutes I’d say do it for maybe 2-3 minutes give it a rest then try later.

@bigmama18, oh really ? I didn’t know that. . I haven’t had anything come outta my breast at all during my whole pregnancy so what’s the difference between using the pump to help induce labor or using your hands to do nipple stimulation ??

@uniloveee, I got you. Like the other woman said. You can stimulate milk production. I don’t think it will be a huge issue though. You may have some but it’s not like you are going to keep doing it and even then a woman’s milk takes days to come in. You would be getting colostrum right now if anything.

When they did it to stimulate my contractions we kept it for baby after birth but I planned on breast feeding. We put it in syringes and in the fridge. Surprisingly pumps are used more than people think for nipple stimulation to induce labor.

@uniloveee, if you don’t plan on breastfeeding you will still be triggering your body to produce milk. Pumping isn’t recommended for breastfeeding moms because it causes your body to over produce. I imagine it’d be the same even if you aren’t planning on breastfeeding. An oversupply without a release can lead to mastitis or an infection and severe discomfort but honestly, I’d just call your dr and ask to see what they suggest. All of us are just speaking from our experiences. We don’t know your specific situation enough to give concrete advice.

Exactly lol thank you !! Somebody feels where I’m coming from basically saying don’t do it but either way NIPPLE STIMULATION held induce labor just like sex , walking , etc. that they tell you try and do so what’s the difference because it’s a pump ? It’s still NIPPLE STIMULATION PERIOD

@mswedes, true but if I’m only doing it to try it out for 2/3min I don’t think anything major is going to happen I didn’t plan on doing this daily..I’m bout to be 39 wks monday so I mean I’m bout to pop any day now

But you don't need to induce labor unless there is an issue. It will happen naturally when your baby and your body is ready. Forgive me I thought you said you were NOT breastfeeding. I must have misread.

@uniloveee, do you see a chiropractor? Getting adjusted can help induce labor as well. I swear by it. Multiple people I know have gone into labor within 2 days of getting adjusted. Including myself.

For my daughter I got my membranes stripped and went to the chiropractor the same day. Then I started doing a lot of walking and standing as much as I could tolerate. Then my water broke a day later. I plan on doing the same this pregnancy

@tiera_shaye, my doctor is old school girl he said I could possibly go up to 42 weeks depending on my baby cause I haven’t dilated yet and my due date is July 9

@uniloveee, yikes. That is old school. Around here that doesn’t happen. Once you are past 40 weeks your chances of baby pooping in utero are high. Which can cause so many issues especially if baby aspirates it.

@uniloveee, that’s just how some drs are. And that sucks. If you feel comfortable doing natural things to induce labor I say go for it. Just please do not do castor oil. It’s unsafe.

It's not really old school. In most cases baby and body work together and labor happens when the time is right. Trying to induce before baby and or body is ready can put baby is distress and cause them to pass meconium into the womb. Happened with my son and ended in an emergency c section.

@uniloveee, I was just trying to say if you pump it will be more than just nipple stimulation. Your body will start producing milk, which then has to dry up and could lead to mastitis or pain. I would suggest sex and walking before pumping.

@mhbb3, while distress can in fact cause them to pass meconium the chances of it happen greatly increase at from 40 weeks and up. The farther along the higher the chance. I have worked with some doctors who as soon as 38 weeks hits let’s induce and others who will only let a woman hit 40 and another who says 41 is the max. It’s all up to the doctors preference. There is a reason that woman don’t go 3-4 weeks over due like they used to back in the day. It’s not safe for mom or baby.
