READ THIS POST!! QUICK!! URGENT!

Y'all!! Do people give cats baths?!?! I know this is VERY random, let me explain. My husband found a kitten, who's mama was hit by a car near his job, and he brought it home. We planned to get our son a cat for his birthday next month anyway, so cool. Well this kitten is adorable and all that good stuff BUT she was A WILD STRAY CAT. I stress this because I feel it's very relevant to my case later in this story. So the cats doing great, adjusting fine, eating yada yada. She's been here a couple of days now, and I wanted to give her a bath. I went to the store to see if they had some kind of cat shampoo or something.I know there's dog shampoo, I naturally assumed the same for cats. Not the case, can't find the stuff. When telling my husband how frustrated I was trying to find this damn cat shampoo he started LAUGHING at me y'all! He said I can't find it cause I'm the ONLY person in the world that would wanna give a cat a bath! Is this true? He said they just clean themselves. WHAT, this kitten has been just out doin lord knows what and gettin into lord knows what and we brought it in our home...it's normal to want to clean it first, right? I should at least give it a bath this once right? I mean is it going to be detrimental to the kitty in any way to get a bath or does she just not like it? He still thinks I'm crazy as hell and said he wants NO PART of givin a cat a bath!

I bath my cats every week just like the dogs.

When we used to bathe our cat we would put a long washcloth over her back kind of like a cape and kind of use it as a shield while we washed her up

Dawn dish soap! It will help kill any fleas abd get rid of flea dirt.

If you're worried about getting scratched, dangle a length of thick rope in the sink and he'll cling to it.

We bathe our cat sometimes. I just use dish soap.

We used puppy shampoo, but yes. All of our cats got a bath every couple weeks or so because of allergies.

Post a pic of the kitty! I'm dying to get a cat but my SO is not very fond of them.

Thanks for all the great tips ladies. I KNEW I could count on you! She does have a vet appointment on Monday to hopefully be able to get her up to date on her shots and things. I say hopefully cause we aren't sure how old she is and I feel like there's no way she even weighs 2 pounds, and I guess she has to be a certain age and weight to get some of the stuff. I'll let ya know how the bath goes, I'm DEFINITELY doin it!! Lol! I'll also be VERY sure to tell my husband that there ARE people that bathe cats!!

Having worked at a veterinary hospital for more than a decade, I can assure you (as you can see with the other posts) people do bathe their cats. Especially starting them young- it will be easier to get into a routine of it. Allergroom is a really good pet shampoo- talk to your veterinary office about a good option. Scruff kitty as you go and use a cup or the sprayer attachment in your sink (just make sure it's on a gentle pressure- not full blast). Kitty will appreciate being clean ?

I bathe my cats (3 of them) once a week with the dog/cat shampoo ... Having them clean also helps my husband not get allergies ... My cats walk around outside while it's raining so they must not dislike water that much...

When we picked up our stray, we washed him with dawn as he had a terrible flea problem. Just be careful not to get water in their ears.

PS our little stray is a healthy adult now ? He's an absolute love bug too.

Enjoy your new family member!

I washed all my orphans but once they got old enough to clean themselves properly then rarely do I do it.

Unless they get extraordinarily dirty. My female cat once wrapped herself in a sticky fly strip. That was a bad day. ?

I've done it on an as needed basis, not just for the hell of it. Cats have some sort of super strength though when you try to get them in the sink or tub. Good luck!

I was a groomer and I've washed many cats. It's important you don't use dog shampoo. They do make cat shampoo, but you can use a little dawn or joy dish soap. Cats don't usually like the water and will most likely pee. Be prepared to scruff him and if he goes wild i'd skip the bath. My vet had us use baby wipes on my cat. Maybe wet one a little and try wiping the cat down and see how that goes. You should call your vet to get the kitty in for shots and de-worming too. Good luck! It's a nice thing your doing for this cat ❤️.

I bath my cats once a month. One is extremely fluffy with long hair (helps with his shedding) and my other cat will jump in the shower with me every day, or when I take a bath myself he'll come in and lay on my legs or chest in the water lol.

Use the tea tree shampoo and get all the worming, etc tablets and give it as recommended for the kittens size and age

I always give my cat a bath. lol.

I would do it more often if it wasn't a terrible experience. Most cats are not happy to get a bath...ever. But in your case I definitely would give a bath a try!

So i decided to be totally bold one day and wash all THREE of our kittens. 1) there's deff shampoo for cats 2) you're probably gonna need some assistance if you don't want your arms ripped off ..... mine did NOT like being bathed. It was a one and only time deal in this house.

lol I gave my cat a bath last week. I've found that it's mostly the running water they hate, so I fill up the sink, then plop him in. As long as you hold them by the scruff of the neck they stay pretty still. If she was feral you should definitely give her a flea bath, provided she's at least 8 weeks and 2 pounds. She'll also need a vet visit to test for worms (super common in ferals) and FIV, and she'll need three sets of shots total. You can usually find inexpensive vaccination and sterilization clinics through your local SPCA or pound.

I'm sure it's normal to wash cats.. well I do lol I have that pet shampoo for pets with a dog n cat pic on it so there is shampoo for cats out there. My cat definitely looks n feels cleaner afterwards so I wouldn't rely on a cat to clean themselves only if I allow it in my house.

You can use baby soap in a pinch but yes you do bathe cats when they're exceptionally dirty

Нравится Ответить

Yes you do bathe them, but it's a very very occasional thing. Only if they're very dirty, like I assume a random stray would be. Otherwise they lick themselves clean.

I'm assuming the store didn't carry cat shampoo because it needs done so rarely, but you can get it online.

I did lol

Put a towel on the bath tub floor, get a TINY bit of dawn soap, and a plastic cup. Give the kitten a shower hopefully you have a detachable head to get all the soap off but if you don't use the plastic cup to rinse him. Don't give him a bath but a cool shower. Make sure you don't wet the head and to get ALL of the soap off or it will be very uncomfortable for kitty when he dries. Have a big dry towel ready. The towel at the bottom of the tub helps the cat from sliding and gives him traction but don't use it to create a puddle bath just for his feet.
