When they are actually giving you the epidural, hurt like hell for me but not for very long because it started working and I couldn't feel anything after that. And I did not feel a thing giving birth. So my experience over all was GREAT

What's nubain? Can you choose witch one you want?

@jennygrant955 which meds you want? I believe so. Nubain is just a medicine that goes through an iv to help ease pain. You still feel pain but to me it made me feel like I just smoked a joint. Idk how to explain it.

You don’t feel epidural at all

Well for me it wasn’t bad at all. Like I felt everything but It was hurt , more uncomfortable. Done in like 10mins. They tape it for your back & give you a button Incase you wanna extra dosage. I only had to hit mine once but then soon as I hit it again they turned it off cause I wasn’t dialing

Mine didn’t hurt at all mine had a button to increase the med if I needed but only pressed the button after birth when I was getting stitched up from a 2nd degree tear

My experience was pain pain pain then numbing shot and a tiny zing and then relief. The needle is only in while they place everything it’s just like an iv just the plastic stays in I had a button to increase the medication but it only worked so often because my epidural was fentanyl.

i was in so much pain from the contractions that i didnt even notice when they put the epidural. After that it took like 10 mnts and i didnt feel the contractions as bad and i was happy throught pushing and everything. No back pain afterwards or nothing for me. I was to see how much i can hold off to put it on this time but if i cant do it again i have no doubts on getting one!

I could feel the shot to numb and then feel them sliding in the tube. I had a rough time though because it didn't work. They gave me boosters 3 times and I still had full feeling from the belly button down. Then I had to have an emergency c section and had the epidural taken out and a spinal block put in. It wasn't comfortable but anything for the baby. I remember shaking uncontrollably because the epidural was cold and it made.my body shiver. I wasn't cold but my body thought I was lol

That's the exact reason I'm not doing it. I've heard no horror stories from any of the women I know that it was awful, I know not every birth is the same but I'd rather risk immense pain than paralyzation.

I was nervous about the epidural as well but with my daughter the contractions are so bad I couldn't take it after about 4 hours so they came in bent me over and put the needle in my spine it felt like a sharp pinch and like a warm burning sensation and then it was done

By the time I got the epidural the contractions were so bad I didn’t even feel it. The hardest part was staying still while bent over during the contractions. I didn’t have any side effects.

@gorgeousmay42217 ive never heard of anyone getting paralyzed from it but iknow it can hapoen. That's their job and they are good at what they do. If I make it in time I'm deff getting it done

I dont undertand the best thing in the world that you can get for having a baby has to be in the back why can't it just go in your arm in a iv like everything else

Okay let me tell you I was SO SCARED of the pain of the epidural that I finally decided to get one at 6cm because I thought nothing could be worse than the pain of contractions, and I was right! The epidural.. I didn’t hurt. At all. I didn’t feel it, and then after like 5 minutes I didn’t feel anything I was in heaven even through pushing and everything. It was awesome. Highly recommend getting it

I started with something similar like nubain, I had a medication through an IV first but it made me feel so loopy and out of it, I can barely remember much that happened while I was on that but I was supposed to labor in the tub once my contractions got worse and the nurse I had at the time denied me that choice even though she had no right to so I ended up with an epidural. Honestly I didn't really feel it, I was shaking and all nervous too and they wouldn't allow my sons father to be there with me while I got it, they said he'd be too much of a distraction, but anyway, the anesthesiologist was really good and he did a good job so I think that's why I didn't really feel anything to bad, plus, the medication I was on prior may have still been working a little. I was pissed but it was all worth it when the rest of my water broke all over that same nurses leg 😅😂 i did forget about the button though so i didn't take advantage of that so if you decide to get one make sure you don't forget about that. I will say, that spot where it was in my back still hurts now and then though and it's very sensitive at times, especially when its raining or its winter.

For me personally I swore I wouldn't get the epidural because I was so afraid it would hurt like hell. Once the contractions started and got really bad I said give it to me!!! It didn't hurt at all!!! Tiny pinch then heaven!

How many cm dilated do you have to be to get it

My experience was good I didn’t feel anything and I was five and a half centimeters when I got to the hospital so those contractions where no joke getting it was fast they talked me through it

@mamakatey yeah what if someone doesn't want the epidural but wants no pain

My first epidural I couldn’t feel it I was in active labor with back to back contractions, my second was a spinal before my c-section and I felt the needle go in but a few minutes after it kicked in and I couldn’t feel a thing.

The epidural didn't hurt at all compared to the contractions. It allowed me to actually calm down and take a nap. I'll definitely be getting another one.

Thank you ladies!! I'll definitely be talking to my midwife more about it. I'm glad to hear not everyone's experience was terrible even though everyone's is different
