At the stage where hes angry but doesnt want sleep

@avianlouiebos I have some suggestions for you that work for my baby, so it might or might not work for you: first of all, swaddle with a blanket for every nap (if he doesnt roll over yet) and put a blanket on his feet - my baby likes the weight. During daytime naps babies WILL wake if you try to move them, so if he falls asleep in your arms, you can't move him or he will wake. Also, it takes between 20-60 mins for my baby to fall asleep. If it takes longer than that, I check his diaper, temp, etc. Put your baby on a schedule. My baby goes down at 8 pm every night and it's always: swaddle, pacifier, good night kiss, lights out. Sometimes I sit and read my own book next to him until he sleeps, but lately I just leave him. If he loses his pacifier he cries out and I put it back in. My baby would stay up and fuss for as long as he can if it were up to him, but like pp said, after 1.5-2 hours, he goes down for a nap whether he "wants" to or not. I know he needs to. Anyhow, use this info if you can. I believe that babies need to have routine. No baby should stay up longer than 2 hours at one time at his age - he needs to nap. Sleep begets sleep. Maybe try to get baby to nap in a bouncer or swing. All babies are different, I know, but my guy seems to feel really snug in a bouncer and falls asleep in it if he is tired. Not the best solution, and baby needs to be supervised in a swing, but it might get him to go to sleep.

He’s over tired. Over tired babies have a hard time sleeping and fight their sleep...he’s not angry he’s just overly tired honey..

@erikak yea that makes sense, for the longest time when he was small enough he only wanted to sleep in his carseat so my bf is used to putting him to sleep that way but hes getting to big to do that now and bf refuses to try put him to sleep any other way like he tries it for 2 minutes and then hes like I'm scared im hurting the baby cause hes fighting it then bf gives up and uses the carseat again like -_- its so frustrating like you actually have to try of course baby is fighting it, it takes them time to settle and babys not used to sleeping in my bfs arms and like you said it takes days to change a habit but hes not consistent or persistent enough:/ makes me feel like its only my job to put baby to sleep ive done it for the past 3 days

@avianlouiebos, my little boy is a horrible sleeper and has been since the 4 month sleep regression which you’re probably going through now. Like has been said look out for his sleep cues and try to set a bedtime routine eg warm bath, massage, lights out, feed and down to bed. It’s totally normal for him to wake when you lay him down, there’s nothing wrong with soothing him again. It’s tough, but be consistent and you’ll eventually make progress. You can’t force him to sleep but you can encourage it. There’s no point putting him down at 11pm for example for weeks then suddenly trying to put him down at 7pm, you’ll have to pull back time slowly so he can adjust. Consistency is key.

@avianlouiebos I understand that our babies are very different. Try to give some other strategies a try. It takes at least 3 days to change a habit for a baby so it takes patience and lots of trial and error! It looks like you are trying really hard to be the best mom you can be for your little guy! Keep doing what works, and keep trying other things if it doesn't work. ☺

@erikak doctor said its not unusual if hes awake for 6 hours straight. And yea my baby wont go down till 11pm-12 am Also I still don't see how you can force a baby to nap if they wont go to sleep. And yea the only way I can get him to sleep at this point is bouncing him in my arms, occasionally hes passed out in his stroller if its sunny out but not something I do to try get him to sleep. And yea im aware it can take awhile normally for him it takes about 20 min to settle but ive even done it for 90 min before and he wont nap so you cant force a baby to sleep who doesn't want to even if he needs to hence him ending up being awake for several hours. He wont take bouncer or swing to sleep wont settle. So yea I don't see how you can do a schedule for babies cuz it doesnt work for me

My sons bedtime is usually around 11-12:30am. He’s not on a schedule either but he’s been quite consistent. I help him fall asleep. He won’t do it by himself. Once he’s been awake for 1.5-2hrs, I’ll see he’s starting to yawn etc and help him to fall asleep. I’ll wait about 5 mins till he’s in a deep sleep to put him in the crib otherwise he wakes up. So basically he’s not on a schedule per se. It’s all about watching your little one and getting them at the right time when they’re tired to help them sleep

@avianlouiebos, I really highly recommend getting your baby to a pediatrician. No more messing around or guess work. Go see someone who only sees babies and children. They will have more up to date information and tons more experience.

YOU ARE YOUR BABYS NUMBER ONE ADVOCATE. Rise to the occasion. I know it’s rough but remember he is not doing this to you bc he wants to make your life miserable. He is in PAIN more than likely or over tired and he can’t tell you in words. Imagine what that would be like and don’t let yourself get bogged down by your own feelings about it. Rise to the occasion. This is why you’re his mommy. You are not powerless. He is. And he needs you to look out for him

@phoebesmommy no i havent i just originally booked him an appt at a clinic with a new doctor he seemed like a bit of an ass though so I don't want to go back to him just to get a referal and i havent found another doctor to get in with yet to get one. I guess i could just go to the clinic as a walk in..

@caiticat. Yea im getting better at rocking him to sleep i swaddle him in my arms and bounce my legs and sing to him etc but im having problems with him not staying asleep like even if i hold him for an hour before trying to put him down putting him down always wakes him up and sometimes i do need to do things where i cant hold him. I have tried bedtime earlier but so far unsuccessful havent been able to get him down before 11pm I got him to sleep a couple times at 10 but then hes been waking up10-30 min later and then continues to be awake until midnight anyway

There's no reason a baby his age should be up for 11 hours straight. My 4.5 year old can hardly keep himself together when hes awake that long. You really need to try to watch for cues and catch him when hes tired/easier to put down than when hes over tired and fighting his sleep.

@caiticat. Also confused about your comment about keeping him in the sun for an hour i cant recall saying anything about that. Sometimes when i take him for walks the sun has helped him fall asleep in his stroller but ive never just left him in the sun for an hour to try get him to sleep.

@avianlouiebos Maybe overtired? Can you try bedtime a bit earlier? Also babies enjoy slow rocking amd and shhhhing. Also try to go in a dark room def not in the sun.

@carusod91 hes all over the place honestly yesterday he was awake for 11 hours straight, today he went to bed at 9 pm yesterday he went to bed at 11pm he woke up at 630am yesterday woke up at 8 am today. I dont really see a way to do scheduled naps and bedtime, ive had people explain it to me before but even if i try soothe him and get him to bed the same time its not working for me he just sleeps when he wants/needs to which changes daily

How often would you like for him to nap / sleep?

My sons schedule is somewhat like this :

- bedtime : 10-12 hours of sleep. Feeds before bed. About 1-2 times during the night , and a feed when he wakes up

- awake for 1.5-2. Down for a 30-60 Min nap. He’s then awake again for another 1.5-2 hrs. Nap. Awake. Repeat. Bedtime.

The times has his naps is when I’ll have time to do things around the house. Sometimes I’ll even give him

A chance for independent play while I try to get things done.

Is your day somewhat like this? I find I have to watch for tired cues so it’s easier to put him to sleep. Usually the first one or two yawns I notice is when I’ll start to sooth and rock him to sleep. Sometimes he needs some milk to sleep too.

At 4 months you might be getting a sleep regression. It will pass eventually

That’s just how babies are. That’s how all of our babies are. I had twins who wouldn’t sleep and I was running on 0 hours of sleep over the course of 3 days. Best thing you can do is take it one day at a time, not be victim, don’t blame the baby, and accept that it’s completely normal.

He seems to be sleeping in your profile pic. Now I'm curious do you want this baby to sleep all the time or is he not sleeping at all? Plus keeping him in the sun for an hour isn't going to put him to sleep.
