Water

Hello ladies just need some advice. I cannot seem to get enough water in me during the day. I get between 6-8 cups and that's on a good day. Does anyone have helpful hints to get this done. Also what happens to the babies if I'm not drinking enough? Today I'm close to 9wks and struggling for this water situation to get better haha

I had the same problem in my 1st and 2nd trimester. I finally now at 31 weeks actual drink close to 3L a day which I still don't think is acceptable. They say with dehydration it can cause pre term labor. But babies steal all your nutrients so it will just effect you initially, unless you get very dehydrated I'm sure it could effect them to some extent.

When I was pregnant I filled 3 32 oz Nalgene bottles with water every night and would force myself to finish them by the next night. It was hard but it needs to be done!

I have a 24 oz tervis tumbler that I keep at work. I try to drink at least two at work. Then drink whatever I can at home. I mix it up and drink plain room temperature water at work. When I get home, I load up the ice and add cut up lemon or lime or even a tad bit of cranberry juice and get a pretty straw lol. Works for me except when I'm really nauseous and then it's so hard to keep water down. Good luck!!!

Try water filled fruits :)
Before my pregnancy I really didn't drink much water at all.. I know that if I drink out of a glass - I will take a few mouthfuls and put it down and forget about it. Drinking out of a bottle for some reason makes me drink more, and I carry it around with me wherever I go so I can sip away all day and keep track of the amount of fluid I've taken in

I make sure I carry four 16.9 ounce bottles of Aquafina water with me each day. Those I make sure get drank. They will reduce your chances of preterm labor, as often times preterm labor is due to dehydration. Then I add in other fluids if needed. Nothing compares to water, You blood volume goes up during pregnancy as well as needing it for amniotic fluid and you body is made up of mostly water. Water is vital to your health. Now that being said you can get water from other sources as well. I ate a lot of water melon during this pregnancy, it is made up of mostly water and fiber, both important to your health ( digestive and other areas as well). Find other sources of water, as long as your getting fluid. Things to stay away from is Tea Coffee and caffeinated soda the caffeine is a Diuretic instead of hydrating you it makes you urinate more and therefore dehydrate you. Hope this helps.

The babies will take what they need from you for the most part and leave you with what's left ... That being said, try not to focus too much on how much you are drinking, I used to as well and drove myself crazy. Drink water when you are thirsty and make sure you get enough then, that's the principle I have lived by and so far no swelling or dehydration. But I also don't drink anything but water and my one coffee in the morning. Since being preggo I have had 1 ginger ale and one pepsi so that helps not having any of that in your system to keep your system flushed :-)

Try some lemon in your water or other fruits to give it some flavor. Water is really important for your babies because that's what their amniotic fluid consists of. I had low fluid on one scan early on and they told me to drink a lot more water and at my next scan their fluid was perfect. Also if you get dehydrated you can get muscle cramps and contractions.
