Systems fucked up... If ur not working u get lots of stamps, if u are well u better hope they dont give u $14 like they did me once

If your income is over like 2 thousand 200 people don't qualify for food stamps...

@pettybetty, I just stopped working due to my high risk pregnancy so they knew I was working, even with both of us working they had denied us... I thought it was cause we both worked but I guess not ..

@flower_princess they look at that too. Capable persons working/not working. It doesn't look good to them if only one adult is working. They don't care the reasoning they just care about their check list.

@pettybetty, idk about all of that but I just know I wasn’t eligible, and we don’t make a lot ... well my husband is the only one working and supporting us ...

@jennifer.mom.of.2 Agreed! I applied to Medicaid because they almost force you at the clinics around here. I'm like I'm not eligible, we have no insurance because we made a mistake on our part. But they do the same thing trying to get everyone to apply for WIC here.

@emily526, I agree I think to many people abuse the system and the people who work and don’t qualify for assistance are the ones who pay the most taxes to the government. I think elderly and real disabled people should be the only ones on assistance for an extended amount of time. I believe you should only be able to get Medicaid or food stamps for 1 child. If you can’t afford to take care of one you should wait till your more stable before having more children or pay for it yourself.

@flower_princess There's a lot who take advantage of the system unfortunately. Families that have more kids just to get benefits or people wrongfully getting disability. I work really hard to support my family on just my income alone and I make too much for any assistance (although I did apply to Medicaid just to see if I could sneak by, I'm paying for my pregnancy and my daughter and husband's medical all out of pocket right now) it really gets to me because my MIL gets close to $800 in food stamps a month claiming disability and also claiming several of her grandkids that don't even live with her. She has down she lives in a house she doesn't actually live in and that she's taking care of all these people meanwhile she lives on her own. Then she takes that $800 and gets cash from the bodega to use as her spending money because she has no job. It really makes me mad, but nothing I can do about it except turn her in maybe but my husband and I tried to do that already and it didn't work.

I mean, that's still the reason. That's why now, when you apply they can ask you how much of your return you have left. They can even make you get a letter starting what you spent your return on. My mil works for the state, she does this daily.

@pettybetty, @emily526, I did mention my “ sister “ has to pay, we don’t pay the IRS. @jennifer.mom.of.2, exactly ... and we are paying out of pocket for my pregnancy ... @certainly.not.inked, oh yeah I know cause they took my sons medicaid .

The government is messed up. I couldn’t get no assistant when I was pregnant and that was just off my income. They took 8,000 from my checks last year in just federal tax and my refund check was only 235

I was going to say what @squishymommy1 said. If you have to pay you definitely aren't eligible for food stamps.

Health insurance goes be gross pay too. Stupid as hell if you ask me. 😑

@flower_princess true, but if you make so much that you owe the irs I don't believe you qualify for food stamps.

If your having to pay you either A own your own business. Or B make WAY TOO MUCH MONEY to even qualify for assistance.

@savana_h, girl even people who make money they get food stamps .. I knew a dr and she got food stamps ...

@pettybetty, not always true ... when you make too much sometimes they don’t give you anything back and you have to pay the IRS ... my sister had to pay the IRS because her and her husband make too much ... which is dumb

Because you get it back in taxes.

I just asked the same thing yesterday.. they make me mad because They’ll give some people so much money when they refuse to work, but here I am working 40 hours a week and can’t get any help.
