Legal isn’t always safest. Legal is bare minimum. When it comes to hold safety we should strive for better than the minimum. There are some great seats on the market that are very inexpensive and there’s always programs to help.

Don’t rush your babies. This is one area you don’t want them growing too fast! Be sure they pass the 5 step test before not using a car seat at all (the average child is 10-12 before meeting these!)

As always: READ YOUR MANUAL and cross reference with your car’s manual for best install. If you have questions, contact a CPST. You can google where to find them in your area. NOT all fire stations or police stations have them. Many you need to call and schedule when one is on duty. And let’s not forget- most hospitals are not properly trained.
Don’t get angry when someone offers advice. Swallow your pride and do your research. This is your child’s life. The “we didn’t have them and we survived” mentality is dangerous. The ones who didn’t survive aren’t here to talk about it.

I have a my boys cars set in the car we just got a new one for the other one.
@mamabear38, you still had to get there and get home. I’m no longer going to argue. We all saw what we saw. Just do whatever it takes to protect your babies - put your energy into that instead of defending yourself.

Hi I was not driving and if I was I wouldn’t put them in danger. I’m not the stupid to put my kids in risk.

@nomli, if she is a CPST- I’d see if there’s someone you can report her to. Can they? Yes. Should they and do they have to- no.
@modom16, I’m willing to bet that more than 3/4 of the “my doctor said it was ok” is a lie they tell thinking people will believe them. I’m being generous with the 3/4. I’d like to believe it’s more, but let’s face it- there are shit doctors out there.
Also most doctors are not certified to give car seat advice! A mom here had her 3 year old in a booster because the pediatrician said it was okay.

Yes I wish more people understood that the laws are the bare minimum and some are very outdated! Indiana still does ff at 1 and 20lbs but what's just as bad as that is you can put your kid in a booster seat with a seat belt at 4 and 40lbs. It's crazy.
It amazing me how clueless people are when it comes to car seat safety.. so many parents appear to be in such a rush for their kids to grow up.. my 30lb chunker is still fear facing and she will be until she is officially too big.
