@mommy_x3 we go for the behavioral pediatrician evaluation at the end of July. But he has already qualified for special education program at the preschool, and attends speech therapy, so we are pretty sure he is

@murphaayyyy, we got for behavioral evaluation sometime in the first week or 2 of July 🤞🏻and we’re working on getting him back in speech therapy!

@mommy_x3 Is this for the 3yr old, or the 1yr old? I am going through getting both of my boys assistance through the regional center. My 18 month son does not say a word. But that may be because his brother has trouble communicating

I know getting the diagnosis is difficult, but it’s great news because now your insurance can pay for the assistance he needs. I’m in the middle of getting my son reassessed to start getting ABA therapy. He also gets speech therapy and occupational therapy.

My son had a bad meltdown today on the way home it has me worried he has never acted this way

@mommy_x3, he had a balloon and was freaking out because the string was touching his leg! He has balloons all the time. Idk if he was tired and it was naptime because you know I have him on a sleep schedule. He has NEVER acted like that. I'm used to tantrums but this was way different

My mom had a fake tree in her house and he was scared of it he freaked out so bad we left my mothers house early but she called me to check on him

@tristansmama2015, he may have a sensory issue, which still falls under the spectrum. ABA can help with that. This is what my son struggled with and he slowly became desensitized with a little help.

Has he ever been evaluated for autism?

@lulu85_18, yes he has and they told me he didn't have it. He has never acted like that with a balloon now he is saying his skin itches imma give him a bath tonight and rub him down in some lotion for itchiness

@tristansmama2015, hmm did he know it was the string for the balloon? I know mauriz has meltdowns over like some different textures and things like that

@tristansmama2015, my son had five other autism assessments before he was diagnosed. Try taking him to a psychologist knowledgeable in developmental pediatrics.

@tristansmama2015, I’ve also learned that most doctors and specialists are afraid to diagnose before age 5. They’re afraid of being wrong. My son was 5 when he was diagnosed.

@lulu85_18 yes I completely agree. I firmly believe that my daughter is on the spectrum. She's probably mildly autistic (probably Aspergers but since the DSM-5 changed Aspergersis no longer a recognized diagnosis) But It's not like I don't recognize the signs since I have quite a few family members on the spectrum but I'm always told that I need to wait until she's older.

It's just frustrating because I know the sooner you start with therapies and interventions the better the over all long term outcome.
