At what age do toddlers start pre-K ? And is it necessary to send them to pre-K?

@simplyshantell @njgriffin I agree school has pros and cons, even some of the cons are beneficial in a developing person.

@njgriffin Also, my now 12 year was lucky enough to go to home daycare for about 2 years with a nice sweet old lady and like 3 other kids. That's ideal too for me if I have to work .... That too is hard to come across.

@njgriffin No, you don't have too send them to Pre-K. I too have not heard of any school shootings at a daycare; not to say it wouldn't happen because anything can happen even at the grocery store or park, or even at home! I do worry. I kept mine at home until 32 months - 2 1/2 basically because I started work, but even if I wouldnt have started working I believe "he was ready to start interacting with others kids and other people in general". I could not provide him with that platform - that too takes money and proper resources. It was some adjusting, and I pray daily for all of our safety as it is a crazy world. I just prefer/ and we're set up to at this point to need public school.

I don't think there is "a safe" state or area. Are you watching the news anything and everything is happening everywhere! But at the same time life has to goes on. We have to take our children the best we can far as character and safety precautions, and #1 pray in my opinion. But no one is subject to not face some kind of unfortunate/unforeseen circumstance.

Make the best decision for your family Dynamics and comfort.

If I could (afford) to stay home, provide a good curriculum, and activity with other children, would I? Yes, of course. Do I want to send new baby to daycare? NO, I would like to wait until he is at least two as well, and for financial reasons I may be doing just that because daycare is very expensive.

@honeywax, since I stay home all day I’m able to teach my kids how to read and write but I also want them to learn how to make friends. We moving to a different state next year so I guess Me and hubby will figure out what’s best

@simplyshantell, thank you so much! I know I can’t control everything but it’s really hard knowing you can’t control your child’s safety ☹️ and you’re right I can’t lived worried everyday

@njgriffin, it's not necessary. I didn't go and was ahead of my class because my mom was able to teach me. I don't have a choice on sending ds to school since i have to work. In my small town I worry more about drugs and drunk driving when he's a teen

@njgriffin Looking back at my own posts, I asked this same question over a year ago. Here's what I found through experience and the choice I made..

I ended up sending him to pre-K, just to see if he'd like it, if it benefit him socially and academically, and if it would warm him up effectively for kindergarten. -It did all of those things. To your specific question if its it's necessary, no. It's not necessary, but is it beneficial? Yes. It teaches them the structure of a classroom and rules of a school that need to be abided by in a way that you can't. So I guess the easier question is, do you want to homeschool, or do you want your child to go to school outside of your household? If you aren't serious about homeschooling, then pre-K is very beneficial to your child. It will prepare him fully for kindergarten so that the structure is not a shock to him and will slowly introduce him to the school environment, how to play with the kids and learn to be respectful of his surroundings and the teachers, and that's not to mention what he will learn. They love to read books a lot in pre-K and they teach your child to write his name and make sure they know their numbers and letters, which gives them a huge advantage in kindergarten. Most kids will know how to do that by that time. The most important thing I would say was exposing him to that environment, so now he knows what an actual classroom and teachers are, and that there are other students you must work with and rules you must follow. When I send him to kindergarten he won't be shocked, he's actually looking forward to starting school again. Also to note, this year he was exposed to A LOT of germs, which will help with this upcoming school year because now he won't be getting as sick. He hasnt been sick as much because of the exposure he's had to the common childhood viruses that he never had before. Now, about the school shooting and the concerns on that.. I'm with you there. The thing is though, I cant be worried about someone crashing into my car every time I get in it to go somewhere.. I cant stop living life because of the concerns I'll lose it or something will happen. Anything can happen at any given time in life, you just have to weigh what can actually control vs. What you cant control. Theres a risk to you every time you step outside but yet you must continue. If you plan on sending your kids to school, just choose the safest possible one and look into what programs they have in place on lockdown procedures and education and what safety measures and background checks/what the hiring process is for the staff. You want to know how prepared they are, but that's about all you can do as a parent.. Hope this helps in your decision making !

@c.r.a.i, if I don’t feel confident when I’m looking for schools I’ll do the same

@honeywax, @mommytobabygirl, @angelfoodcake, is it necessary to send your kid to preschool? And how do you guys deal with sending them to school and knowing they are safe with all these school shootings going on? I’m gonna have to find a place for my baby next year and I’m overwhelmed and scared of finding a safe school

Im not sending ds because he gets as much education in daycare and I feel blessed finding this daycare.

Before switching him to this one, he was the only kid because it was a private person (private can only watch one kid at a time) so I was planning on sending him to prek for socialization.
