I hope this is the right place to post this. Just got my bfp last week and I just hit 5 weeks. Because we had a missed miscarriage in March my midwife offered me early blood work to see how everything is progressing: HCG was 147 and progesterone is 19.7. I get a call the next day from a nurse at the office saying they’ll be calling in a prescription for progesterone as they want to see it at 20. I’m a little confused, because everything I’m reading says the range is 9-47 with average being 12-20. I really don’t want to take hormones unless I absolutely have to and this just seems a little excessive. Most studies show that early progesterone supplementation for women that have less than 3 miscarriages shows no improvement in outcome and often just prolongs the inevitable outcome. I haven’t had any bleeding, cramping, or anything else seem off compared to our first pregnancy that resulted in my son. Anyone else have this type of experience, and if so, what did your doctor consider the cutoff level for progesterone supplementation?
@l-cubed, at this point, I’m a champ. We went out to dinner last night and I had to give myself a shot in the public bathroom and then go back to my friends like nothing had happened. I have a new respect for junkies 😂
@kimberly810, hahaha!!! I found using a smaller gauge needle helps so much! It also makes you inject way slower which I think also helps! I use size 25G from the Ethyl. Definitely harder with the PIO sesame but doable if patient. Also helps to warm up shot so it’s less viscous. My DH also massages it after injecting. And I also use a heat pad on high on my butt and wait until it’s numbish. You’ve probably already heard me go through my process. But it hurts so much less! And you can complain! Pain is pain! 😛
@l-cubed, omg you poor thing. I’ll stop complaining! I agree with what you’ve said elsewhere - I’ll do whatever it takes. Even become a human pincushion 😝
I’ve heard taking the pills orally is awful - tons of side effects. Suppositories are messy, and I was told not as effective as shots. Shots hurt, the needle is huge, but you get used to it.😝
@betty.crocker My doctor just put me on progesterone mine was 17. Something and I'm getting the shot. With my last pregnancy I was on the oral. It's a very controversial topic from what I've read and heard from doctor's but both doctors I have had said in their experience they have had success. This doctor said less than 20 they would put me on and I believe low levels is what cause my first miscarriage.
@kimberly810, hahaha!!! You are the champ! Wow! Hehehe. Junkies. It’s true!
