my boyfriends son needs soooo much discipline. he has no manners, is entitled, and extremely spoiled. i feel bad for talking about a little kid like that but as i’m putting my 5 months old down for a nap he comes up to me and says “give me some chips NOW!” ummmmk

@kartersmommyy, does your boyfriend let you discipline him ?

Do you correct him? Do you say: you ask like this, not that.
At 5 yrs old- that is failure of the parents. Do not blame the child.

@mamizamorano17, he does, but he gets sensitive about it sometimes. i correct him but he’s not around me all the time so all the progress i make just gets reversed when he comes back from his moms house.
@laniejay, he just turned 4, but oh yeah i’m not blaming him it’s just difficult because he’s been lacking discipline his whole life. his dad disciplines him but he’s not with us all the time. he says things to me i would’ve never said to my parent or step parent. idek where to begin

That’s actually really common in children who just turned 4. In their minds the world basically revolves around them. They have to be taught otherwise. Our parents taught a lot of us by fear which instead of actually learning why we don’t do something we didn’t do it because if the fear of the negative reactions the adults in our lives would give. Guide him gently if he demands something just say we ask politely give your preferred way of asking and say let’s try again. And have him ask for what he wants

@iwannaplay, i was making good progress with him but then he went to his moms for a couple of days and it was right back to where we started. i’ve been trying to have patience bc i know he’s only four, but all of my work is going down the drain bc he has no consistency in his life right now

That’s unfortunate but it’s not his fault. The adults in his life need to get on the same page or he’s going to be the one to suffer for it.

@kartersmommyy, I am going through this with my SO's daughter and have been for years. It's truly just the awful price of being a stepmother.
