Hi moms, I need some suggestions and/or advice about my oldest son. He's 5 years old, has a developmental delay that his doctors as of yet don't think requires an official diagnosis, and I'm at a loss with what to do with him in regards to potty training.
He refuses to wear underwear and throws a huge fit every time we even suggest it. He'll pee in the potty if his pull up is off, but then begs for a new one instead of underwear, and he won't even try pooping. They won't let him start kindergarten next year if he isn't fully potty trained by then.
We have tried rewards like candy or toys, putting stickers on a board or going to the park. We've tried the potty training bootcamps people swear by all over the internet. We've tried letting him go in his underwear and sit in it for a while so he'd just get uncomfortable. Nothing seems to work with him. We've been struggling with this for 3 years and all his doctors say is "he'll figure it out on his own."
Has anyone struggled with this before? How did you end up solving it?

@skymomof4 I haven't tried that yet. We just ran out of pull ups yesterday so I'll just not pick up anymore today like we had planned. See how that goes. Thanks!

I don’t have advice but know you’re not alone! My son is 4 and it has been such a fight. The first day it was a fight to get him to wear underwear. We refuse to go back to pull-ups. Now it’s a fight to get him to actually sit on the potty and then sit long enough to actually go. We have only been consistent since Friday and we have had a few successful trips but it’s still such a power struggle with him. He knows that he should use the potty but I don’t think he understands the sensation of needing to go. We’ve tried bribes and charts and finally just had to break down and do it because I’m worried at this point he’ll just be lazy and refuse no matter what I do.
