so Gary is having second thoughts about BLW he's paranoid Kai is going to choke and wants to blend his food now cause that's what his sister did 😐 I really want him to eat what we have without having to blend it...
was anyone else's partner like this?
@kayleeebeee Kai sometimes gags on his milk cause he guzzles it so I'm pretty laid back about the whole eating solids, just my partner he's a worrier and cause his sister blended food he wants to and I don't xx
Oh definitely the choking is scary for all involved but gag and choke is completely different. I watched YouTube videos to know the difference and it's very relaxing. If available you could also take a child first aid course to ease your minds Hun xx
@kayleeebeee this is why I want to do it so we can all sit at the table eating the same meal, he's started watching us eat so I know he's interested in it, from what I've read I really don't want to do traditional weaning, I think Gary has come round to the idea of doing it again he just worries about him choking xx
I've done full blw with both mine, it was actually my partner who suggested it after being recommended it from a work colleague. And honestly I have absolutely no regrets. My son had reflux and has a very forward gag reflex somstill gags at stodgy food, like thick chips, mash etc.. but he's much better than he used to. But it was just so easy to just cook one meal and not spend extra money and know they are learning what we eat and how to etc xx
I did purées then at 6m did a bit of both and my daughter will eat anything! Just go with what works for you xx
@sara-lou86 I'm proper excited to try him with food lol I think Gary just worries cause there'll be a time I'm not there and he'll be feeding him he's a worrier lol, I read it's better for them than purèe and they're less likely to be fussy 😁
They will gag. It's almost inevitable as they have to learn what to do. But if you learn the difference between gagging and choking then you will be able to calmly deal with it. Do a bit of both if you want to use puree. I still gave mine pureed fruit, baby porridge and yoghurts etc. But honestly it's fine. Makes life easier being able to cook and offer foods without the need to puree and I didn't have to deal with mine getting used to going from puree to chopped because they had whole foods from day 1 😊
@nataliielouiseexo as long as its a little bit over boiled there really squishy 😅, my youngest loves lasange and garlic balls at 6 months he ate absolutely everything and he still does 😅xx
@amybentley he gags with a bottle sometimes and I let him cough it up himself, I brought loads of paper work and books from the weaning class (it was a one time only thing) he flicked through them but I'll get him to have a proper read, he was really up for it at first and now he's just scared he chokes he can't see how a baby can eat brocolli etc bless him 😂😂xx
Gagging is also a good sign, it helps them to learn their gag reflexes, if he does gag it's just him figuring it out, it's when they start chocking you obviously need to intervene, can you take your partner to a weaning group or something so he understands a bit more? Xx
@amybentley I'm going to tell Gary the difference with purèe and blw, I'll definitely be doing blw really don't want a fussy eater lol it'll make me try new foods eventually too xx
I pureed my first food and he was so so fussy and still is at 5, did blw with tommy and he's an amazing eater, started with sweet potato, banana ect that is really soft and he's never ever gagged xx
@whiteford.lisa05 yeah he sometimes gags on his milk anyway trying to drink too quick I don't see the difference if it's food lol x
@jodiedillon3 I don't worry that much my partner does 😂 yeah that makes sense, it's not like they can bite a big piece off is there 😂 x
@nataliielouiseexo, yeah and they gag a lot more than choke x
Tbh I'm more like the worrier than my partner 😂 I try to give him our food as much as I can so I do toast and things but I still blend his tea but I also put what i blended at the side for him to do himself if that makes sense so i do both but I don't think there is any need to worry they can chomp through anything haha and it's also good for them x
@whiteford.lisa05 I told him that that's why he was really up for doing it and now he's scared he'll choke, I've told him babies have a different gag reflex to us xx
@nataliielouiseexo, yeah and it’s really good for teaching them that they need to chew if they don’t want to choke xx
@whiteford.lisa05 that's exactly what I don't want him being fussy, at a weaning class I went to they explained more people do blw now, I'll get my own way with it 😜 it'll be so much easier at meal times xx
Yes mine was and I now have a one year old who will only eat soft purees and when he wants to he’s so fussy and it’s so hard when we are out or even just meal time I dread them so I’d say stick with blw there’s a reason why that’s what’s being advised now xx
