Anybody have any advice on brushing a 1 year olds teeth? My daughter is not having it, seriously you…

Have her hold her brush while you brush your own teeth. My son always watched me brush mine and that's how we made it fun

Mine won’t let me brush his top teeth but the bottoms he lets me brush fine! I can barely get his tops brushed but I try atleast twice a day..

My son responds best to an electric toothbrush.

I tell my son momma do it first and then you... so he lets me brush his teeth then I give him the toothbrush and he “brushes”

Oh the common question! I've worked in dentistry for 11 years.. unfortunately this is a question we hear all the time and unfortunately the answer is not normally what you want to hear. I'm sure it breaks your heart to battle about the tooth brushing..holding her down, etc. But that's what you have to do. I promise you your heart will be way more broken to watch her lay in the dental chair at 2 screaming getting cavities filled. Not to mention, that breaks our hearts too. It's a phase, and it'll get easier💜

@kathysue.maltman, yes!! I worked at a dental office and it would break my heart to see so many kids under 2 while getting their cavities filled ....

Thank god I got my son in a habit of brushing, brushing his tongue and flossing ... cause he enjoys sugary stuff

Good for you! Our first baby is due in a month and that poor girl! I'm gonna be brushing her gums with the finger brush she she pops out! Not really, but we will start young that's for sure!

I agree with @aengs2, my son loves his electric tooth brush.. you can get fun characters which he likes too :)

What has made life easier for us... the brand “Dixie” has come out with these disposable little cups for water. If you have a smart phone or iPad (my son has an iPad) we downloaded the app for the cups. U scan the cup (there’s a little circle) and the character “comes to life” on the device and shows them the “bugs” hiding I different spots so they brush all over. It’s really cool and cute. My son absolutely loves it. And it gives them a coin or points at the end of brushing!

I agree with the previous posters. I too am a dental hygienist as well as a mom of two little monkeys with the 3rd coming soon. It is totally a phase that will pass and you just gotta push through. I buy the cheap $5 electric toothbrush at the grocery store. Mommy do first then let them try. But ultimately in the end I hold them down if I have to. When they cry at least their mouth is open...😉. I also sing songs or whatever I can to distract. It’s so hard but so necessary!
