Is a 99 Temperature Enough to Send a Child Home from Daycare?
The daycare called on Tuesday and told me I had to pick my son up because he had a fever. So of course normal protocol call, he can’t come back the next day, so I have to figure out what I will have to do about that. I got off work and came to pick him up and he was playing, laughing and jumping around having a good time. They talking about he been throwing up a lot, I’m sitting there looking at him like where???? Lol they said he had a temp of 99. A 99 temperature, Come on now did I just really get off work for a temp of 99, I only had a hour left for work. What do y’all think of the temperature policy in the daycares, ridiculous or what. Because 9 times out of 10 if he was sick he got it from one of the kids in the class room lol. I just can’t!

I work in child care and that temp is not alarming we wouldn’t even called u about that if it wasn’t any other symptoms.
But if he was throwing up and has 102 or higher then we would’ve called and asked he be picked up.

I believe by law in the state of Texas you can send a child home it’s 100.4 or more. You should ask them for their sick policy

I worked at a daycare for over 5 years before having my children. I wouldn't say it's ridiculous. They need to look out for the other children too. If your child is throwing up & has any sort of fever I would call the parent. I wouldn't want the other children getting sick.

100.2 is what I meant to put.
@darlinexo, u know it could of been something he ate n once it got out he could’ve been cool too.

@alysia.alysia, yes they sent home like 6 child just out of that classroom that day. But he was not throwing up at all once he got home.

We called for anything over 100.5. Also gave a courtesy call for an elevated temp. We also give a courtesy call for vomiting but if I remember correctly, if they threw up 3 times, you had to come get them.

That seems so silly! Like, even a newborn doesn't have a fever until it's over 100.3!

@mswedes, I like that policy, because if they have to be out the whole next day it’s inconvenient, when he was feeling fine the next day.

@nomli, it’s pretty ridiculous

Oh wow it's not even considered a temperature until 100.4
When my oldest started school I had to send a DR note explaining her cough was due to bad seasonal allergies because they kept sending her home. Im like she's not even sick 🤦

My daughter's school has a policy like that.
She threw up at school once during lunch. I was like well why didn't you call me ? They said unless they throw up 3x they don't send them home and that's a public schools policy

If he was throwing up at my center and had a fever of 101.1 then we would call you to pick him up not not until it’s 101.1 and then he wouldn’t be able to come the next day.
